Planet 51 Review

Cheat Code Central
8 December 2009
  • Conclusion: The bottom line with Planet 51 on Wii is we had fun. The game has all sorts of problems, not least of all its low-rent production values and crazy on-foot camera system. Had the developers locked the camera behind your character's back, á la Resident Evil 4/5, we'd certainly have much less to complain about.

Planet 51

  • Conclusion: There are a few local multiplayer options here as well. Two players can compete in races, demolition derbies, or hot bombs, which are basically a vehicular game of hot potato. But the poor vehicle controls sap these of any potential fun. The world of Planet 51 seems like it would be a nice place to spend some time, but if that's a trip you're interested in taking, this game is not the way to do it.
  • Pros: Wide variety of tasks.
  • Cons: Poor controls take all the fun out of driving, Story is incoherent and poorly told, Visuals are bland, with a stuttering frame rate, Many missions are dull and frustrating.

Expert Review

GameSpot

  • Summary: The animated film Planet 51 turns 1950's sci-fi about Earth being invaded by little green men on its ear. Life on the titular planet very much resembles the stereotypical vision of 1950's America, but the inhabitants are little green men (and women), and the alien invader is an American astronaut.
  • Pros: Wide variety of tasks
  • Cons: Poor controls take all the fun out of driving, Story is incoherent and poorly told, Visuals are bland, with a stuttering frame rate, Many missions are dull and frustrating

Planet 51 [Wii] Review

WiiDS.co.uk
15 December 2009
  • Excerpt: Planet 51 is one of the latest animated films to hit the big screen and the plot follows Captain Charles T. Baker on his mission to Planet 51. Baker ends up in the house of Planet 51 resident Lem, and it is up to Lem to get Baker back to his spaceship. The game follows a similar pattern, with subplots along the way to allow for new challenges and tasks, which makes it less easy to follow as a story.
  • Pros: Lots of different missions to complete, Ability to drive freely around the planet and have fun, Unlockable features give a reason to play on
  • Cons: Poor controls let the whole game down, Some tasks require a few too many attempts, Not enough of the storyline is explained

Planet 51

WiiG
8 December 2009
