Excerpt: Nintendo have picked good Gamecube (GC) titles to remake onto the Wii platform including Pikmin, Mario Tennis and now Pikmin 2. If you played either Pikmin game on the GameCube you will know how much fun they were to play and it is now time to decide whether it is worth reinvesting and playing again on the Nintendo Wii or to let the little fella’s stay in the ground to flower and never to be picked again.
Excerpt: This release of Pikmin 2 feels like it was meant for the Wii. If you haven’t had an opportunity to play through this one before, you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t at least give this one a thorough look. (With it being a Nintendo Selects title, it won’t break the bank either.
Pros: Great gameplay, improved controls, low price
Summary: Does having a Wii Remote make hurling Yellow Pikmin at Honeywisps any more fun?
Pros: It's fun to have a hundred Pikmin at your command to break down walls, build bridges, or hunt Bulborbs., The game's cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes have a good chunk of additional content., Wii controls give players more accuracy and functionality.
Cons: Caves can become long and frustrating, and if you don't collect all the treasures before you leave, you may have to slog through the entire cave again., The frame rate can stutter sometimes when the camera is zoomed out all the way.
Excerpt: Nintendo's decision to re-tool some of its classic GameCube games for the Wii can be viewed in a number of ways. The cynics would argue that the only reason it's done this is because its current line-up of Wii exclusives is geared almost entirely towards a new 'casual' demographic, so it needs to call on its games from the last generation to appease traditional hardcore Nintendo fans.
Excerpt: Pikmin 2 improves on the original in every way, and takes advantage of the Wii's motion sensing abilities to provide the player with a practical method of interaction. A worthy addition to the series.
Pros: If you love exploring and collecting then Pikmin 2 will consume you. New control method is well done.
Cons: If you’ve played it before, then you’ll find nothing here to really spark your interest again.
Conclusion: Pikmin was a gardening-inspired masterpiece created by legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Pikmin 2 is a true sequel and improves on the original title in almost everyway. It spent 3 years in development leading up to its 2004 release, and the extra effort shows. There’s a lot more to do with over 200 items to find, the annoying time limit is gone, there’s multiplayer and new Pikmin to use & enemies to face.
