Conclusion: Playing NBA Live 08 is similar to catching one of Gilbert Arenas' jettisoned jerseys. It's real and authentic, but is gnarly and covered in sweat, so you get what you pay for. Next time they dribble down the court, EA Sports must make sure ALL FEATURES are included if they want to have influence on the everlasting success of the Wii console. Until then, NBA Live 08 is an experience that is enjoyable, but just way too thin.
Conclusion: The game has multiple game modes, but the CPU ranges from pathetic on the easier difficulties to inexplicably hard on the higher ones when it comes to the 3-point shootout and dunk contest. The dynasty mode mimics a real basketball season, which sounds nice on the surface, but considering all the gameplay issues the season becomes sadistically long. NBA Live 09 will be released before you finish one season.
Pros: Includes Wii online play, Easily accessible to novices
Cons: CPU teammates are imbeciles, Shooting is too easy, Too many Wiimote functions, Fixed camera, Lazy visuals
Excerpt: Ordinarily, if we were playing some stream-of-consciousness cognitive connections game and you threw the words "basketball" and "nunchuks" at us, we'd probably think of the movie "Game of Death" and a chuk-wielding, yellow-track-suit-wearing Bruce Lee taking down a gauntlet of foes before coming face to face with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. At least that's what we would have thought of before EA Sports' NBA Live 08 for Wii landed on my desk.
Excerpt: NBA Live 08 on Wii is probably one of the most average games I have ever played. Everything it does is implemented in a way that is sufficient to make the game work, but never makes the game anything more than simply average.
