Mario Sports Mix review (WII)

HonestGamers
22 December 2011
  • Excerpt: When you sit down to play a Mario sports title, you have the right to expect something special. Mario Golf on the Nintendo 64 was one of the most addictive golf games ever released, a clever and well-executed take on golf made memorable by the crew of golfers that included numerous favorite characters from the Mushroom Kingdom.

Mario Sports Mix (Wii) - Review

VGChartz
27 March 2011
  • Excerpt: Mario is no stranger to the world of sports. He’s played golf, tennis, basketball and soccer (or for the rest of the world, football), as well as competed in various Olympic events in both Beijing and Vancouver. He’s proven time and time again that he’s just as good at scoring goals as saving a princess.

Mario Sports Mix Review

DailyGame
22 February 2011
  • Excerpt: Mario sure likes to get his hands dirty, that guys done it all ranging from painting programs to Kart racing, and now rounds out his resume with four additional sports all on one disc. Mario Sports Mix features the titular character and friends (some new!) in basketball, hockey, dodgeball and a very tedious rendition of volleyball. Unfortunately none of the sports is as fleshed out as one of Mario’s standalone sports titles such as the golf or tennis titles.

  • Excerpt: Life isn't easy for Mario. Sure, it may all seem like it's all mushrooms, coins and punching dinosaurs in the back of the head, but that'll only take you so far. I mean, a princess only gets kidnapped what, every few years right? So what do you do to pass the time? If you said gather your pals for a slew of random sports games, you're on the right track.

Mario Sports Mix

GameTrailers
7 February 2011
  • Excerpt: Considering how many sports Mario has competed in over the years, he ought to have shed those holiday pounds by now. With all those Olympic medals under the pudgy plumber's belt, he's liable to sleep his way through Mario Sports Mix. The game's hockey, volleyball, dodgeball, and basketball events do make for some light thrills, but is there enough substance to keep you coming back? Rarely is there a dull moment in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Mario Sports Mix Wii Review

DarkZero
24 February 2011
  • Excerpt: I don’t think anyone has ever told Nintendo that you can have too much of a good thing. Despite a console generation that has seen more Mario games than I can even remember, and more sports titles too, here we are with Mario Sports Mix . This time around Nintendo have sweetened the deal with not one, not two, not even three, but four sports on the same disc.

Mario Sports Mix

Gamereactor

  • Conclusion: The atmosphere is rather good after a few rounds of dodgeball. We're four virtual dodgeball pros, activating ridiculously powerful special attacks, we yell "who threw it?" when Yoshi gets his socks knocked off, and we down a drink or two. But it's more a testament to the great circle of friends in front of the TV, and not necessarily the game itself. After going through the four events there is no clear winner amongst the bunch and we quickly switch games.
  • Pros: Decent party game, ice hockey, creative special attacks.
  • Cons: Few events, varying quality, imprecise waving, poor overview, lacklustre A.I.
