Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Wii Review

Console Obsession
29 May 2010
  • Excerpt: The Wii version of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix used motion sensing in a meaningful way. It didn’t feel tacked on (something which most multi format games on the console tend to suffer from) but instead it really enhanced the game in a way that standard controllers never could, and, as a result, it was a stupidly fun and involving game.

Expert Review

Game Informer
15 October 2009
  • Summary: I now understand why Lord Voldemort never killed Harry Potter in his sleep. Watching this spoiled brat waste away at Hogwarts is a punishment far worse than death. In this game, Harry's schoolwork, relationships, love for Quidditch, and all activities related to being the so-called ''chosen one'' are pushed to the side. For what, you might ask? Collecting worthless trinkets!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Family Friendly Gaming
14 October 2009
  • Excerpt: Family Friendly Gaming is on the home stretch of reaching the four digit mark of reviews online. With all of those reviews we have not touched on the Harry Potter franchise until now. Some people love the books, movies, and games. Others have a major problem with the magical elements in the franchise. I am reviewing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for the Nintendo DS.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Review

GameSpot
13 October 2009
  • Excerpt: Although the Harry Potter novels are some of the finest fantasy works around, the famous wizard's foray into other media has been met with uneven success. The movies based on these books don’t contain all the story details, but they have been saved by their fantastic special effects and beautiful art direction. Unfortunately, their video game counterparts have struggled to capture the brilliance of the books.
  • Pros: Lots of references to the original Harry Potter fiction
  • Cons: Gameplay consists of only three different activities that get old fast, Story is difficult to follow if you haven't read the book, Character models and voice acting are subpar

Dark themes handled with a light touch in this 6th game.

Common Sense Media
6 October 2009
  • Summary: Parents need to know that this visually-exciting action adventure game is based on the movie and book of the same name. While the themes in J.K. Rowling's sixth book in the Harry Potter series are darker and more mature than those in the earlier books, this video game does not focus that much on those themes.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Review

VideoGamer.com
5 October 2009
  • Excerpt: When you've created an entire virtual Hogwarts school, it makes sense that you'll want to get the most out of it, but in the case of EA's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, it means the game is incredibly similar to the publisher's previous effort. Once again you'll be guiding Harry through the school (and the odd off-site area), conjuring spells, completing tasks and loosely following the plot of the latest film.

Harry Earns a C-

Game Informer
22 September 2009
  • Conclusion: Concept: Hoof it through Hogwarts, stopping only to duel, fly, and brew potions Graphics: Way below the bar for PS3 and 360, and about average on Wii Sound: The music is decent, but the sound-alike voice actors ?are ?terrible Playability: New dueling controls give combat some flair, and the flying sections work as intended. Potion-making is interesting in concept, but uneven ?in ?

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

ME Gamers
28 July 2009
  • Excerpt: First Impressions My reaction is For years now, EA have been doing a pretty decent job when it comes to milking the Harry Potter brand name. With every book and movie comes a game, and with every game we are left slightly disappointed. Hardcore Harry Potter fans probably wish the developers would step up and make it happen already and with the release of Half-Blood Prince the hopes are actually pretty high.
