Alien Syndrome

The role-playing game (RPG) Alien Syndrome, released for the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) and the Nintendo Wii gaming platforms, was developed by Totally Games. This RPG/multi-directional shooter is published under the Sega label and was first made available in the United States in July 2007. Alien Syndrome is being promoted as an update to the 1987 run and gun arcade game by Sega. Among the changes made to the gameplay in this update is the addition of an RPG element.

Alien Syndrome places the player in the role of Earth Command Trooper Aileen Harding around two decades after the original game ended. In the Alien Syndrome universe, interplanetary travel is possible and Harding is sent to a faraway planet to investigate why one of the stations has lost all communication. She then finds herself battling against enemies on infested spaceships and alien planets—fighting for her life while she fulfills a mission to take down an alien menace responsible for the “Alien Syndrome.”

Harding and her droid companion (which acts as a backup as well as storage space) must fight their way through up to 40 levels filled with hundreds of alien enemies. There are also 15 mini-bosses and 5 main bosses that must be killed. To help Harding with her fight, the game has hundreds of items which she can equip—up to 80 unique weapons, hundreds of armor types as well as some bonus items.

Alien Syndrome on the Wii can support up to 4 gamers playing in a co-op multiplayer game on a single TV screen.
