Another camera with issues
Eric M., Newegg
1 July 2009
Summary: This is the letter I sent to Microsoft. I purchased this camera from NewEgg.com and it exhibited a clicking sound on the microphone. This persistent sound makes the microphone function unusable. NewEgg service offered to RMA it, and I did this, returning it at my expense.
Pros: This is a follow-up review to my earlier review. On the positive side, I can state that this works fairly as a webcam.
Cons: I RMA'ed my earlier camera (see previous review) and Newegg support was as always, STELLAR. I rec'vd my replacement camera today, and surprise! It had the same audio issue. I've decided to try and work with Microsoft directly and see how that goes. *PLEASE* Think twice about purchasing this camer...
Summary: did I mention this camera sucks! I thought it might have been a good choice sine its made by MS and I'm running vista. but I learned my lesson. Cheep hardware is Cheep for a reason !!
Cons: Don't get this camera if your running vista!!!!! the camera worked fine for about a week then the mic started giving feed back, I tried moving the camera, switching usb ports, rebooting and reinstalling the latest from driver and software from MS, but none of it worked. I was about to rma it when...
Summary: Driver installation wasn't the nightmarish procedure that some people seemed to experience. Although I didn't bother using the CD, I just downloaded the drivers from MSoft.
Pros: The mount for the monitor was nice.
Cons: The image was incredibly grainy. We tried maxing out the lights, playing with the settings, nothing helped. I can't believe Microsoft is selling this as a higher-end camera. We have two other webcams to compare it to, an iSight hooked up to a mac mini and a built in camera in the EeePC 1000HA. Bo...
Summary: This product is not even worthy of the one star I gave it. I just bought this for my parents computer because it was a good price. Now I know why. They shouldn't even give it away! It wasn't ready for the market. I have the Logitech 9000 and I recommend this. The Lifecam software never installed.
Summary: Microsoft has to really test their camera's before they release them to the public. Especially if they are this high dollar value.
Cons: It is probably one of the worst high dollar camera's that you can get now. I had the Vx-1000 and it was horrible...replaced it with this one and this one is just as bad....For some odd reason Microsoft webcam's are really bad. I have a creative Webcam Live! and reason why i wanted to replace it, ...
Summary: I purchased a Microsoft NX-3000 at the same time and it works well.
Pros: The video works just fine.
Cons: Apparently the USB cable is acting as an antenna picking up RF from any bit of equipment that's turned on. If I plug this into my laptop while the laptop is unplugged with the WiFi adapter disabled as well as unplug my desktop computer, monitor, stereo, telephone and lights it has almost decent s...
Summary: The whole reason I got this thing was I thought for sure that a MS product would work well on an MS operating system. This has been an extremely frustrating experience.
Pros: Excellent Pictures
Cons: This is the worst webcam I have ever owned. Despite its great technical specs this unit refuses to be stable on every system and every OS I've tried it on. Even on Vista this camera will work for a few hours then flake out. MS hasn't updated the drivers for months. I will be ebaying this unit and...
Summary: The microphone doesn't work. It did when it was new but then for somereason it quit working. There are lots of persons with similiar problems and apparently microsoft has no solutions for this. I've found a lot of complaints about this on line.
