Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000
14 September 2008
Summary: The Microsoft
LifeCam NX-3000 is a nice webcam with a pretty good variety of resolution
settings and options. It has a built in noise canceling microphone for great
audio performance and a very good clamp attached to the webcam. With its small
size, 640 x 480 MP video
resolution (1.3 MP still capture) and 25 FPS video, the NX-3000 is a good choice
for mobile users.
Excerpt: I would have to classify this as a medium level camera. At any rate it is Microsoft's lower level portable camera. However it performed amazingly well across my standard tests, considering the price. It only has a 640x480 pixel sensor but for most notebook usage that should be adequate. It has a 28 inch cord which should be adequate for most notebooks, and yet not so long as to get in the way. The main body of the camera swivels up and down about 20 degrees.
Pros: Inexpensive, compaired to other models, Good mounting bracket, Does well in most lighting conditions
Cons: Under exposes with bright back light, Soft or fuzy lens
Summary: The Lifecam NX-3000 performs its primary function -- and little else -- to middling effect. If your notebook is already equipped with an inbuilt camera there's very little reason to consider this purchase.
Pros: Good sound quality, sleek and functional design, affordable price
Cons: Below average in dim lighting, certain features only work with Windows Live Messenger
