Summary: I followed instructions, downloaded and installed software, plugged in the webcam when indicated. The software crashed. I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled. Same thing. I requested a replacement. The same thing happened with the new webcam. Tried installing an older version of the software. That didn't work either. Microsoft, I'm ashamed of you! I've requested a refund.
Summary: I bought this camera because the store I was in did not have the one I wanted and I figured I would give it a try. I returned it the next day. The biggest problem was that it would not stay in focus! It kept searching for focus and would not find it and would not stop. If I turned off the auto focus I could manually focus it from the software, but that would not work for the kind of video blog I wanted to record. If a camera cannot focus it is worthless. Period.
Summary: The picture quality for this webcam is fantastic. I just hate that's where the positives end. Then auto focus is extremely annoying. You can go in and turn the feature off but every time you unplug it or shut down the computer, the auto focus resets. The other problem is that whenever I use it, it likes to disconnect itself for some reason. it will work well for about 10 minutes then turn off.
Pros: I've had it for months. I consider it a positive development when it records at all. Any kind of picture quality is a bonus.
Cons: Autofocus is terrible. Skype partners ask what's wrong with my camera that it kept going out of focus. I hit record and 25% of the time it records nothing at all! You have to tell it: "Yeah, I really meant for you to record, do it."
Summary: Simply put, you can save a lot of time and trouble with the installation, plus get an equal or superior product for the same money or less. I bought the Microsoft product based on the assumption it would be easier to install, more likely to work with my Windows XP, and probably a superior product. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I returned the Microsoft product and exchanged it for a Logitech C270H and have been pleased in every way.
Summary: Up until now, the products we've purchased from Microsoft have been at least average quality. Not so with this camera. Not matter what we try, the camera autofocus will not hold a sharp picture and the image is almost constantly blurry. Recommend a less expensive version such as the 3000. Don't buy this one--not worth the postage to send it back!
Summary: I bought this web cam based on reviews. The price is right. However the camera will not focus. I have the requirements on my computer to run it but the auto focus is off and on every time you barely move. So I have to turn it off to avoid a jumpy picture and the picture is still out of focus and fuzzy either way. I don't know what to do now. I am going to try to use it on a more powerful computer and see if it clears up. I have read that this cam has focus problems.
