Summary: I'm comparing this to a Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000, which was also on sale for $10 recently. I got this one because it was on sale at the same price but sported 1024 X 768 resolution, a slight upgrade for the same price. However even though you can indeed use 1024 X 768 photo and video, the picture is a lot grainier. Although well-lit subjects come out very bright, this webcam doesn't perform as well as the Microsoft VX-5000 in low light.
Pros: Excellent stand, Good, bassy microphone, 1024 X 768 as opposed to 640 X 480
Cons: Grainy photo and video, Poor low-light performance
Summary: The packaging for the C170 says you need Windows Vista, 7, or 8, so I was pleasantly surprised that the C170 works perfectly with my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.5). Didn't need to install any drivers. Why use a webcam when the MacBook's got its own webcam? At home, I keep the MB Pro on a shelf under my desk and use it in "lid-closed" mode, connected to external monitor & speakers, and wireless mouse & keyboard. Works great...
Summary: I purchased Logitech webcam for my desktop computer. It arrived very quickly, even sooner than estimated. Webcam is very easy to use, no need to download or install any drivers, just plugged it in and it was ready to use. Image is clear and vibrant (a little lower quality with low light, but still reasonable). Camera holds to the top of my screen without wobbling and cable is long enough to reach to computer standing on the floor.
Summary: I've been a user of Logitech webcams for many years, and i've always been impressed with the durability, consistent updates and quality. And this is no different.. I finally said goodbye to my old Logitech that served me well for a number of years and purchased this item and for its price, it has to be one of the better webcams on the market, HD quality, clear mic, and small and easily adjustable.
Summary: *Update: All Logitech software now installed and running fine on the backup PC. I suspect the problem with the main PC related to legacy C500 driver bits. *Original review: An overall 4 stars from me because this is better for image quality than my old Logitech C500. Let's start with the good stuff. Out-of-the-box, I just plugged-it into my backup Windows 7 PC, where I wanted to use it to replace a rather old and tired Microsoft VX-5000. Whizzo!
Summary: The C170 feels a solidly made product, adjusts to fit a flat screen monitor bezel easily….and stays there once adjusted. I am using it with Windows 7 where it is an improvement over the integrated webcam in my laptop, the sound quality is impressive. Works fine and I would recommend it.
