Summary: Both the camera and the software installed successfully, bu the software says the camera isn't connected if you try to take pics or do video. The silly software features work as does the monitor, but that is not what one purchases a webcam for. The culprit appears to be Arcsoft WebCompanion 4, but no updates on their site or HP's. Horrible purchase for me. I'll update if I ever get it to work.
Summary: I ran the 5210 on three different computers with Windows 7. I had issues with Skype running at the high frame rated. The calls would lock up. The first install did a firmware update to the unit so I know the unit is up to date. There is a real issue with Windows 7, Skype, and the HD 5210. I'm running it on Windows 8 now and the newest version of Skype, it works but the 1080p is choppy. This unit does not perform as advertised as far as I'm concerned.
Summary: Everything about this camera is great, the design, the engineering, the built in hardware compression.... except, the fatal flaw. The pan/tilt head that connects the camera to the base is extremely loose. You can't accurately aim this camera in the direction you want, because of this. Also if it is clipped onto a laptop screen, if you move the laptop around at all, this camera will flop around causing shaky video.
Summary: HP HD 5210 Webcam The monitoring function of this unit appears to be operating when it is not. The files generated by activation of the "motion detection" software do not exist even though the file is available to view, this happens regularly. In consequence, the unit cannot be trusted for monitoring. The capture function is unreliable - sometimes the recorded file is also missing. Worth the problems?
Summary: OK so the camera is half decent and yes the light adjust works well...the quality isn't HD, although it's fair DVDish. The software though is like something out of the late 1980's. Drivers fail to install (it is NOT compatible with a vanilla Windows 8 install) and 50% of the software will not even run. The software 'support' is laughable and I cannot believe that HP have put their to this- a true marketing disaster.
