Perfect Gift for Father
20 December 2011
Summary: I was searching for a pocket watch to purchase for my father. He gave me his Christmas "wish list" six days before Christmas, with a pocket watch being the first item listed. As though it were fate, Amazon was having a one-day free-shipping special on select watches, and this watch was included. It's a gorgeous mechanical watch, at a reasonable price. My dad loves gadgets of all sorts, so I think he will get a real kick out of being able to see the gears.
Summary: I bought this pocket watch despite the very mixed reviews about having to contact support, and having to spin up the watch. I was fully aware that I would need to spin that knob if I wanted it to keep working. In fact that was one of the primary selling points for me. I was also aware that if it stops working in week I can just send it back to Amazon and get a refund.
Summary: Shipped real quick. Sent me the wrong one but I got the right one really quick. I gave it to my boyfriend for our anniversary and he LOVES IT! He shows it to everyone has it with him all the time and it works great! Worth the money!
Summary: I really loved this watch..for the first 6 months. It broke at that point; something went wrong with the winding mechanism and somehow the big hand got bent in the process. If and when this watch breaks on you (I had mine for about 6 months before it broke) don't bother sending it to Akribos even though it's under warranty.
Summary: I do not to purchase recommend this pocket watch. Even though it looks incredible and is wound manually, the watch is made in poor condition. I gave it to my husband for our 1st anniversary and the hands of the watch broke after less than one week after he started using it. Very disappointing for such a nice looking watch! Hopefully the warranty covers it.
Summary: I bought this on sale for 60.00 for my dad for fathers day and I was not disappointed when it came. It's a mechanical watch, which is a plus since batteries are a pain to change out in watches and never seem to last long anyway. It has a simple yet elegant design, it allows you to see the inner cogs of the clock which I thought was pretty neat. Also it has a storage box that comes with it and a piece that pops out on the back allowing you to stand the watch up at night.
Summary: I just received my watch today. So far I am impressed by the look and feel. I was not impressed by the fact the watch was loose in the box and crude plastic wrapping that the watch was wrapped in. Also , the photocopied instruction manual was a turn off. So far the watch is a definite buy again. The look and feel of the watch makes me think I paid way more then I did.
Summary: I'm not particularly knowledgable about watches, but I am fascinated by mechanical devices and the history of science. This pocket watch is a fine example of a mechanical clock - with plenty of visible gears. The watch came in a nice gift case, but the effect was ruined by the poorly-photocopied "instruction" sheet printed on cheap paper. The watch had also come loose from its place in the gift case during shipping.
