Summary: all our other appliances are GE, and we are happy with them. But this washer is truly a piece of garbage and belongs in the junkyard. Doesn't anyone make a washer that lasts more than 3-4 years anymore? On and off switch is a problem, stalling in the middle of the load is a problem, proper drainage is a problem. Repairman told me the control board and drainage pump needed to be replaced, with and estimate of $687. Our last machine was Hotpoint and lasted 22 years.
Summary: We bought this washer and dryer set approx. 3 years ago. The washer has washed clothes very well until recently when the frame of the wash tub broke away form the tub. According to the service rep. this is common and extremely expensive to replace. Close to the original price of the washer. It also requires a full diasassembly to repair. This is simply poor workmanship and it has made my wife feel very insecure in ever purchasing anything from GE again.
Summary: Bought a WCVH6800J2WW brand new because it was recommended by Consumer Reports, used it for 18 months and it broke down with a burned-out switch and control board. Quoted $500 to fix. From the other reviews I've read, this is a common problem, so I'm not sure why it wasn't recalled. GE just lost a customer for life.
Summary: I am very happy with this machine. Lots of settings. Dingy work clothes, delicate unmentionables, and everything in between. All loads come out very clean. And I think we are going to see a decrease in water consumption. Be careful how you load. balance is a concern, but all explained in the instructions.
Summary: Ok I brought this as a dream machine. It is the worst machine ever, from day one. I hate this machine. Have had 3 calls on machine and will call every month until I get results. You can't wash a quilt, blanket or large items, Wont' clean in the middle. Leaves dry spots through the clothes, Was told by repairmen, load with same size clothes, will be unbalanced, plus smells moldy constantly, off balance and will actually shut machine off and you won't know if clothes are...
Summary: Perhaps I just got a lemon, but this washer has never spun out correctly on a consistent basis. Some times the clothes are almost dry, and the same load next time will not spin at all. When it refuses to spin properly cycles can take over 3 hours. I have made sure to level the unit properly, and have it resting on a concrete floor. As for washing performance, it does remove heavy soil and stains very well.
Summary: We were very happy with this washer for the first three years. Then it started making a lot of noise and vibrating a lot. Seems the coupling between the wash tub and the pulley are a weak point. They work loose and wobble. After tightening it a few times, the tub is ruined, pulley shot and the belt excessively worn. The result is a $600 parts plus repair bill. GE says "too bad". I will not be replacing the washer with a GE model. To the dump it goes.
Summary: the washer is extremely quiet and cleans very well, better than my last top load washer and it uses very little water. The wash times are a little long, but there is a speed wash setting that will wash in about 30 minutes--and that's as fast as it will go. Actually, the noise from the water going down our drainpipes is louder than the washer itself!
