Summary: These radios have a battery life of about 2 hour on full charge. I charged the batteries for 1.5 days. I tried using them on a road trip and the batteries were dead less than half way home. Worthless junk. I tried putting in alkiline batteries and it drained 4 AAA batteries in about two hours of use. You don't even have to use the damn things, just having them on runs the batteries down.
Summary: We purchased 8 sets (16) of these 2 ways and have found that only 4 of them (not sets but radio's) have a battery pack the will hold a charge for more than 4 hours before they die. We have changed to just regular AAA batteries (1000 mah) and can now use them for the full day. But please note that we can not use the chargers any longer with these batteries. The battery packs cost as much as the radios did. Check it out yourself.
Summary: I purchased this 2-way Uniden radio set for my son about 6 months ago. I actually purchased two sets...a total of 4 radios and 2 charging units. Thus far, the radios have worked great. I question the 18 mile range... the conditions must be optimal. In town, the max range is more like 5 miles. However, that is sufficient range for our use. We often use this radio set to communicate among family members at amusement parks, zoos and other places where we may split up.
