Summary: This is the third B&D griddle waffle maker I've owned and the quality is not a nice as my other's have been. The edges of the base are rather jagged and the springs holding the grills are inconvenient, in that they hit the edge of the handle and control box. Quality has diminished from my last unit. The coating on the griddles is not even, coating is spotty.
Not unusable, but could use a redesign to make it stronger and improve fit & finish.

Summary: I have to agree with the other reviewers that the design could be better. The plates don't really fit snugly into the body. And the metal hinge on the back appears to be pretty weak, so I'll have to be very careful with it. BUT it makes decent waffles, and if you're looking for the thinner non-belgian style waffles this might be the only game in town. At least I wasn't able to find anything similar.
Summary: I tried the All Clad and it was not worth the money. So I bought this. The waffles are better and bigger. it cooks slow and it's a little cheaply made, but it works. And the All Clad was slow and had the same non uniform cooking. If you can't figure out how to bend the clips to make the plates stay on, you're inept at life. Apparently the perfect traditional waffle iron maker does not exist.
Summary: It cleans easy, panckes and sandwiches don't stick to surface. Grilled sandwiches are okay, but slow to cook and takes time to brown the sandwich. That are the positive features. Negative feature is that it does not seem to get very hot and pancakes take a long time to cook and are very light in color.
