What was wrong with these? (great idea, terrible execution)

Summary: This was our ideal solution at the time. I am Scottish, my wife is Lebanese and we both live in California. Love Skype, persuaded so many family members to get on it, but it was a pain to leave the computer on all the time in case we got a call. Loved the product for a few months. I should have known something was wrong when around 6 months after buying one phone and a base station, I looked for a second handset and saw Philips had discontinued this model and the only...
Philips VOIP841 PC Free is the best! Why did they stop production?

Summary: The Philips VOIP841 is user friendly and allows Skype calls in and out plus landline useage all without having the PC on. Obviously, production had to be terminated once they hit upon something like this. The phone works great. Quality likewise. No complaints whatsoever. This is a first rate idea! My only problem is that Philips stopped production. The only phones available for VOIP useage require that the PC be "on".
Summary: I purchased a new Phillips VOIP841C phone. Came with 1 phone and it's modem. The phone worked great for about 1 year. Now, it drags down my internet speeds and will drop the caller's voice. They can hear me, but I cannot hear them, yet the connection is still present. Restart the router and the Phillips Skype Modem and phone. I've rechecked all connections to cable modem, skype modem, router. Still have this issue.
Summary: After testing Skype itself (see other good reviews in this set on how Skype works) on a laptop for a month, we decided we liked it enough to get a Skype phone. After spending a lot of time comparing models on line, we got this one because it looked more like a regular phone (we don't need a Skype phone that travels) and so hoped it would be comfortable to use. In fact, its form is clearly derived from the Philips landline phone we had before.
Summary: I purchased this unit (base plus three handsets) in Feb 2008 and have used it for all outgoing calls via Skype since that time. Registering the handsets took a bit of research but after that it provided excellent call quality (better than cell and often better than landline). My internet connection is only 512 mbs but that seems more than adequate. The contact list syncs with the contacts on my computer so there's no updating at all - very convenient.
Fantastic product...don't buy it at that price though

Summary: I bought this phone about a year ago for a fraction of what this third party seller is trying to sell it for...it's a rip off. Buy the newer version directly from Amazon or search elsewhere for this particular model. EDIT I paid $104.99 when i bought the phone in February of last year directly from amazon..so I repeat..... DONT BUY IT AT THIS PRICE....the third party seller is trying to rip you off.
Summary: I've purchased this product since April 2008 and I love it, makes my life easier and cheaper. Sometimes you have to reset (unplug the base from the outlet or take the batteries off from the phone) the telephone due to problems with the internet provider (system down) but In overall works great, I haven't had any problem. I highly recommend it! Skype software is installed, you just have to plug it in, upgrades automatically.
Summary: For those who are a little tech-crazy this product gives a real high. I never have had any problem with this phone since i bought it 6 months before. I am using this phone as my home (landline) phone. My parents from India call through Skype internet client to this phone. This itself justifies the little higher investment. It is unfortunate that the product is no more in the market. I was thinking of buying one for our parents at India.
