Awesome Phone if you can still get it

Anonymous, Newegg
6 November 2008
  • Summary: What a great phone! It's been one of the best tech purchase I have ever made, and I'm an IT director with 100,000 hardware budget!
  • Pros: I've owned this phone for over 2 years, and it's been really stable. - 3 bucks a month for unlimited long distance! - Range is huge. I took it for a walk one night, and I got 1.5 blocks before it started breaking up and over 2 before I got disconnected. We have a huge back yard and have absolutel...
  • Cons: Power off and back on every couple of months. Sheesh! If only my laptop were so reliable. Slow to retrieve missed calls, addressbook. etc. . . .

Awesome Gadget

Anonymous, Newegg
21 April 2008
  • Summary: The day Skype has a working caller ID they will be perfect
  • Pros: Awesome toy. I was paying about $45.00 a month for a land line plus $15.00 for long distance compared to the $90.00 a year with Skype so even with this toy I was able to quickly recover my money. I have 4 handsets and almost one year later they are working great. The setup was very easy anyone ca...
  • Cons: A little slow pulling up call history previsouly dialed numbers etc.....

additional note

  • Summary: Before I realized it had the ability to forward, I once carried this on a driving trip to use with the in-room ethernet in the hotel. Worked like a charm.
  • Pros: Just wanted to add to my previous review, now that I've had this for almost 5 months. I have found that this can be set to forward unanswered Skype calls on the landline. So now if I'm not home, Skype calls get forwarded to my cell phone, a local call. I recently took a call from New Zealand on m...
  • Cons: none that I can think of.

Nergear SPH200d

Jesse E., Newegg
25 October 2007
  • Summary: You can swap between accounts easily enough, but a second handset only would be nice.
  • Pros: Connects directly to Skype via my router so I don't need to have the computer on to use it. It downloaded my contacts from Skype and is super easy to setup and use.
  • Cons: Power transformers for the charging base and the antenna base are 100V only.

  • Pros: This phone is a great purchase for anyone who wants the enter the world of VOIP Telephony. The sound is outstanding on both ends of the line, and the dual mode (land line/ethernet) gives the user multiple options. Also, the wireless range is very good, I can talk from anywhere in and around my ho...

Suggestion after much use

D W., Newegg
12 September 2007
  • Summary: I've already reviewed this, but as an update, I've found that putting it outside the firewall improves quality in most cases. i have a dlink dgl-4100 router and assigned the the dmz port to the static ip address i gave my phone. some routers also have port 4 that can be assigned to the dmz port.
  • Pros: See my previous post.
  • Cons: See my previous post.

Love it

Jerome F., Newegg
12 August 2007
  • Summary: The OS for the phone itself is apparently Linux. Perhaps someone with programming skills could hack the program to allow a default call mode to be specified for individual contacts. Or maybe Netgear will fix this. Since it in always on, I think I might subscribe to Skype voicemail.
  • Pros: The convenience of not having to have the computer on to receive Skype calls, quality of sound, ease of set up and use. Also, I appreciate that the handset uses standard batteries - AAA NiMH.
  • Cons: You select SkypeOut or the landline as the default to use with SkypeOut contact numbers. If you select landline for the default, when you wish to call a regular phone overseas you had better remember to select SkypeOut when making the call, or you would get a rude surprise with your next phone bill.

  • Summary: I plugged it into my wireless router and was off to the races as soon as I put in the time and typed my skype username and password. The range is AMAZING. I called my wife while she was outside our brick house, and she started walking around the block.
  • Pros: Fast setup! Easy to use! HUGE range!!!
  • Cons: . . . . . hmmmmm . . . .

  • Summary: Recommeded if you call overseas often. Saves you money.
  • Pros: Excellent small Skype phone. Small, nice looking, quality of connection is perfect. Connection is straightforward to point when installation CD or instructions are not needed at all. True Plug-n-Play device. Connects to broadband modem on one side, phone line on second side and to power supply, t...
