Not ready for prime time

Cedric T., Newegg
26 April 2013
  • Summary: I agree with pretty much everything the other reviewer said -- this phone really isn't ready for prime time. And the support (or lack thereof) -- WOW! I opened a ticket with Grandstream about a bug in the firmware and the ticket was closed without so much as a comment. I asked about it several times in the support forums, but I didn't get a single response there either. Maybe if you're a big customer who buys a thousand phones they pay attention.
  • Pros: The phone is fairly inexpensive and well-built. The screen, though small, is bright and easy to read. Ringtones can be customized with a little difficulty; the screen with a LOT of difficulty.
  • Cons: Buggy firmware and NO SUPPORT. The has a noticeable hiss that completely defeats the purpose of having a HD handset. If this is CNG it's WAY too loud, and there's no way to turn it off (or even down). Documentation of the customization features is incomplete, inaccurate, changes radically between firmware versions, and is difficult to find.

Not Ready for the Enterprise

John C., Newegg
27 April 2012
  • Summary: For serious business use, I would not buy these again. The binary configuration tool is junk. XML configuration is almost totally undocumented (they don't even supply a working example file; be prepared to figure it out on your own). The built-in ringtones are totally unacceptable for business use.
  • Pros: Cheap Have an RJ9 jack for headsets Great audio quality and speakerphone
  • Cons: Poorly documented Poor support Lack critical features for enterprise use Requires a free line key to do an attended transfer
