Excellent SIP phone

Sam, Amazon
23 October 2013
  • Summary: Tried other models like CISCO 7940, they usually don't work on SIP requiring tech's reprogramming, which does not always work. With 508G, fantastic - plug and play. This is third order, multiple units, in under a year. Will keep buying 508's as old 7940's and 7960's burn out.

Great phone

Shon, Amazon
13 August 2013
  • Summary: I love this model of Cisco phone. We use the 8 lines to monitor other users to see if they are on the phone and to quick dial them. Well made and it just works. It also has a ton of options that you can edit.

Doesn't work without a plug or POE switch. (Not included)

Benjamin J. Gibby, Amazon
12 August 2013
  • Summary: For some reason these phones come with no way to power them. I guess they assume that every purchaser has a POE switch to power the phones but that certainly isn't the case. It's almost like buying a toaster without a plug. "Oh you wanted to actually use your toaster?

Works great with Virtual PBX

Scott the IT Guy, B&H Photo
3 July 2013
  • Excerpt: Have purchased 4 of these phones from B&H now. Great sound quality and easy to use. Originaly provisioned for Ring Central, and now working with Jive Communications, these are great for virtual phone systems - even on a fiber or cable internet connection.

SPA508G - firmware upgrade = great phone

Bruce J., Newegg
19 March 2013
  • Summary: If you want to brick one of these phones, simply try to upgrade the firmware by following the instructions to the "T". Once a phone is bricked, there is no sequence of buttons to press that will recover the original factory settings and Cisco will offer no support for a bricked phone after the...
  • Pros: Reliable. Great sound. Works with Asterisk. Works with 3rd party headsets. PoE. PC Ethernet Port. Web Interface. What more could you really want from a simple desktop SIP phone? You don't need a seperate RJ45 outlet/jack to run these phones at workstations. The phone plugs into the wall, and the ...
  • Cons: Desktop loses LAN/network connectivity when plugged into the PC port and phone reboots. The web interface could use some improvement but it's still pretty good. Just don't try to upgrade the firmware. Ever. See other thoughts.

No Traditional Power Supply?? It would've been helpful to know!

Matstock, Amazon
16 November 2012
  • Summary: I have ordered similar CISCO phones from Amazon and they all came with a power plug. This one did not and it was not clearly stated in the title and/or that it gets its power from the ethernet cable/adapter. Which we don't have. I elected to order an $8 power cord... hopefully its the right one.
