Seems decent

  • Excerpt: I actually haven't used this microphone much yet, but from playing around with and testing it, it seems like a decent tool. I bought it as a more affordable option to record audio for videos filmed on a DSLR camera, so I hope it ends up suiting that purpose.

Very Handy Audio Recorder

Glassroom Video, B&H Photo
28 May 2014
  • Excerpt: The interface of the operating system could look better but other than that, it's a great device. I use it for weddings and corporate video production. It's capable of monitoring the input and can mount to standard 1/4in mounts on rigs. Has "recording" errors when recording at 96k but no problems at 44.1k. SD Card formatting takes a few minutes so plan accordingly. But all-in-all a very sturdy and a very handy device.
  • Pros: Compact, Easy To Use, Excellent Sound, Low Distortion, Versatile
  • Cons: Difficult To Use

Excellent recorder with caveats.

  • Excerpt: I chose this over the Tascam equivalent due to the audio tests I heard around the internet.I use this to record classical & hard rock performances in various size rooms from concert halls to hole in the walls. For now I have exclusively used the built in XY mic and I am very impressed with it's frequency response and sensitivity. This unit can record a pin drop from 20 yards away using the built in mic and record it perfectly.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Excellent Sound, Powerful
  • Cons: Built In Mic Dslr Nono, Needs A Tripod For Mic

great headphones; terrible tripod; case needs redesign

Christopher Ward, Amazon
21 August 2013
  • Summary: The handy recorder is great. As for the bundle, the headphones are a comfortable fit with fantastic sound reproduction. As a bundle, you would be forgiven for expecting everything to fit into the case. However, you would be disappointed. The majority of the volume of the case is filled with a foam inset with cavities to hold the Recorder and immediate accessories (NOT the headphones or tripod).

recording issues

Edgar, B&H Photo
4 May 2013
  • Excerpt: You cannot record two mics plugged into the XLR inputs (R and L) and have two different WAV files. This device will record two mics plugged into the XLR inputs and take the form of one stereo WAV file. In editing you wont be able to adjust levels of two voices because there will only be one track containing both voices.
  • Pros: Versatile
  • Cons: Weak

One warning

Not built to withstand heavy use.

KRVids, B&H Photo
22 February 2013
  • Excerpt: If you plan on lightly using this recorder in a very controlled environment, then you shouldn't have trouble keeping it from breaking. If you plan on taking this on multiple shoots and having it switch hands and be a general use recorder in a media business, it isn't the one you want. It's just not built well enough to withstand long term use IMO.
  • Pros: Compact, Easy To Use
  • Cons: Poor Quality Construction, Weak

Decent

  • Excerpt: I found the user-ability of this device to be unintuitive. Accidentally deleted a lot of files too easily. Also, the two top mics are exposed and weak, therefore break easily. Ours did in storage.
  • Pros: Compact, Powerful
  • Cons: Difficult To Use, Weak

The standard for DSLR Video

ISDNY, B&H Photo
10 November 2012
  • Excerpt: Everything is great about this recorder except one thing: if your batteries run out while recording, the file never gets saved. At all. If it was 1 hour of recording, you lost the whole thing! Seriously?! Not even a corrupt file we could recover with the right tools, nothing. Come on, it's 2013 out there!
  • Pros: Compact, Excellent Sound, Versatile
  • Cons: Difficult To Use, Unnecessary Functions
