Great Recorder Power Button Poor Design

Worni, B&H Photo
30 May 2014
  • Excerpt: This is an excellent hand held field recorder with an easy interface for menu navigation. The quality using the built in mikes is very usable, even better when you plug in external condenser mikes powered using the on board phantom power. We have a dozen of these in the Dept of Cinema at SFSU. The only defect is a very poor design on the power button. It is hinged and if pressed too hard will break off and fall inside the case.
  • Pros: Compact, Easy Menu Navigation, Easy To Use, Versatile
  • Cons: Poor Power Button Design

  • Excerpt: I use the DR-100mkII for recording my classical guitar and the 2 XLR inputs with phantom power is just perfekt for my 2 AKG C480B mics. Then I also can attaché it no my DSLR and make absolutely perfect sound for my videos on YouTube. The built in mics are ok for most recordings and sound tracks to videos but if you really need the best sound you need som high quality external microphones.
  • Pros: Compact, Excellent Sound, Versatile
  • Cons: Unnecessary Functions

Tascam Recorder

  • Excerpt: Very pleased with my purchase. Especially compared to the Zoom, definitely grab this piece of equipment. It doesn't have the hiss that the zoom has. Only thing I recommend is make sure you get a good set of sound canceling headphones because at times its hard to distinguish whats being heard naturally compared to whats actually being recorded, even with the volume and amp up on.
  • Pros: Compact, Easy To Use, Excellent Sound, Powerful, Versatile

  • Excerpt: new to audio recording, don't understand everything about cutoffs and pads hz ect. but i can say omg i can't wait to start making some sound effects with this. was playing around with it outside, had the gain turned all the way up pointed across the street with built in mic. about 25 feet away i could hear my friend walking every time he stepped on a stick or scuffed feet i could hear clearly, even heard the sleeves of his jacket rubbing as his arms moved.

Perfect for amateur voiceovers

9 April 2013
  • Excerpt: I've been using mine to record voiceovers in my closet. It's easy enough to adjust the settings (after reading the manual), and transferring files is quick. The preamps are quiet but not quiet enough for my low-output RE50B, so I use a condenser mic instead.

Nice piece

  • Excerpt: I use it to record direct dialogue on set for film. it allows me to pay total attention on the characters tnhx to its limiter withouth risk of peaking. pre-record function is grate. Batery life and the posibility of alternate to AA makes it totally portable. The paint comes off easy, better with its bag. I´d love more power on its headphone out.

Pretty clean

Dave L-K, B&H Photo
17 January 2013
  • Excerpt: I've been using this for interviews, both with the built in mic and with a RODE NTG-1. I really like the sound quality. At medium gain it sounds perfect. With phantom power and full gain, it still sounds pretty good, but there is a low-frequency hum. The low cut filter doesn't seem to get rid of this (I think the filter may only change the built-in mic), but it's easy enough to get rid of in post, and the sound in the range of human voices is very clean.
