Summary: This recorder does exactly what it should do. It is easy to get up and running if you have a working understanding of recording. The manual is tediously detailed, but if you do not know how these things work, read it, do what it tells you, and you will be fine. Be patient! I have been a recording engineer for over 30 years, so this is a tool for me as a scratch pad. I can take it with me and make "notes" anywhere, even if only spoken ideas.
Summary: 63 after rebate is a screaming deal for this recorder. You'll get far superior audio than you'll ever get out of a DLSR or camcorder. Presently this product is the best value in a portable recorder. There are better, even much better (XLR input, better pre-amps etc), portable recorders available but at much higher price points. Originally I was interested in the Sony PCM M-10. It has a bit better specs than the DR-05 but at nearly 4x the cost.
tiny and sensitive, excellent reproduction of sound.

Summary: very sensitive. Really great quality audio. VERY SENSITIVE. so much so i realized i need a much quieter place to record! I've used this to record myself talking (attached to tripod about 4 feet away from me); and also to record A-10 warthogs flying over my house. it picks up dogs barking through 500 feet of forest. It's just that good!
Summary: No blank media to purchase, uses internal micro-sd card (4GB included) and USB cord allows for simple dropping and dragging of files. Recorder goes forever on 2 AA batteries. Has a bass roll off setting with 3 options to eliminate distortion while maximizing the audio spectrum. Save files as WAV or MP3 adjust the specs to accommodate for file size. Line/mic in for external mic or line level output.
Summary: I have a side videography business (outdoor weddings, dance recitals, etc) and I bought this specifically for a dance recital to put on stage to capture tap dancing and some acting scenes where the actors weren't mic'd. It worked great! Very low noise, everything was clear and picked up the tap dancing and actors with no problem. After editing the acting scenes (which had 1 person with a mic), you could barely tell the difference between the 2.
Summary: I bought this Digital recorder because of my budget. The price was great and I was very impressed with recording quality. All the controls were easy to use and very helpful to have them right at your finger tips. Its an exellent starter recorder to get your gear up and going while you are on a budget. The recording time is great for two double AAs. 100% difference in Audio quality compared to recording straight off your built in camera mic.
Summary: This is my first digital recorder, but with about 20 minutes reading the instructions, I was able to figure out all the settings, learn how to set my custom levels, and even used it for a paid job a week later. It plugs in fine to a sound board and gets great quality. The only thing I've had trouble with is getting the speakers to work, but I'm sure it's just user error and I haven't really needed it so haven't spent the time to figure out how to adjust the setting.
Summary: This made a clear recording of a wedding ceremony. The buttons are easy to navigate, and it's easy to up the levels before you record. Connecting it to a computer to pull the files off is easy as well. It was automatically detected as a USB drive on a Mac.
