Sony MP3 Recorder a big name but poor engineering.

Summary: I purchased this recorder at Target for $100. I was looking specifically for a Stereo MP3 recorder. This is not a professional device and I would advise you to avoid it for following reasons: 1. There are no Recording Volume Level PEAK or VU meters... you record "by ear" 2. The unit uses ultra low voltage levels of one 1.5V AAA battery ... extremely short recording time. (Why they did not use at least 2 batteries).
Summary: I was assigned a Sony ICDUX80 recorder at work and found it to be a great tool. I have bought one for my self and love it. It is very user friendly and has great sound quality. Best of all, I can download the files to my computer by plugging the recorder directly to my usb drive. The recoder fits in my pocket so I can carry it with me at all times.
Summary: I liked this digital voice recorder alot when I first bought it in '08'. The size was perfect, the sound was great and it was easy to use. I used it on and off for a couple of years and it worked great! All together I had about 200 recordings. After about 200 uses the bottom half of the display went out. The recorder still works great but it's difficult to navigate b/c I can't see the bottom half of the display. Overall I give it 4 stars.
Summary: Despite few negative reviews, I think that Sony ICD-UX80 is a great voice recorder. It has one of the best compatibility with USB and MP3 standards. Pros: - Superior MP3 recording and playback - Large 2GB flash memory - Direct USB connection: no need extra wires - Drag and drop file transfer: no extra software needed - Voice Operated Recoding: automatic pausing on silence - Good microphone sensitivity - Windows,Mac and Linux compatible Cons: - Average recording time on...
Summary: This Sony recorder broke after a year and a half. If that's the average life span for this product, it's not worth the money. The problem with my recorder is that it doesn't work as a recorder any more. If I plug it into a PC I can see and listen to the files already stored inside. I can even transfer MP3 files to it (again, only when using a PC). But when I turn on the gadget, it freezes. It starts to "boot up" and the red light flickers to indicate this.
Summary: It has everything I want, except the ability to turn it off. There is no power button or button you can hold in to turn it off so if you accidentally bump it, you have to let it turn itself off. That is my only complaint. Very Compact and light. I barely know it is in my pocket.
Summary: My mom got me this for lecture recordings. I found that the recordings are not clear if I sit 3 rows from the auditorium. I have to sit in the first 2 rows in order to hear the playback clearly. Also, when I listen back, there's always electronic interference sound in the background, something like 'vee, vee' which is very annoying. (I hope someone will let me know how to get rid of those interference sound.).
Summary: As some others have noted, at least some of these units (alas, mine) have terrible battery life. I carefully shut mine down with the "hold" button between uses, but the battery, even when using high-powered NIMH rechargeables, is almost always dead when I pick this thing up for use. I simply can't rely on it. Which is too bad, because the recorder offers excellent audio quality.
Summary: Extremely useful device, and the sound quality is great. Here are my thoughts about the product: PROs: 1) The device is sleek and compact, easy to carry around with, and has a great design. 2) It comes with a display screen in which you can organize what folder you want the sound recording to be saved in. I use my recorder extensively to record lectures of several different classes, and it's nice to be able to sort them out. 3) You can record at high or low quality.
Great overall voice recorder, especially for people with Macs

Summary: I bought this voice recorder (ICD UX-80) in November and have been really happy with it. I have recorded in small conference rooms, individually and in large auditoriums - all with excellent sound quality! I've been most happy with the fact that it records in MP3 format, which makes it infinitely easier to use on my Mac. In all, the reviews here of it are correct.
