Summary: I've been in the newspaper business for many years, and I've always used recorders at governmental meetings, interviews, etc. -- much easier and faster than taking notes, and it allows me to focus more on my subject.
Summary: It works quite well. The one thing that needs improvement is the playback volume, which without earphones is a little weak. The device is slim, so I'm not sure if that volume increase can be done without compromising the size.
Summary: I purchased the product for tape recording lectures in school. I sat right up close by the professor. I took it home and it was impossible to listen too. I could not make out a word the professor was speaking and that was at the highest volume. After much arguing I finally got my money back.
Summary: I bought this to record rock shows, after having been impressed with the quality of some bootlegs I'd heard recorded on it earlier in the year. I've recorded four shows so far and considering that this recorder isn't designed for that sort of dynamic range or level, the quality is truly outstanding.
Summary: I work as a journalist and I love this little handheld recording stick. I've managed to integrate it with the voice recognition software that comes with the package so this has saved me hours of time what with dictating my articles into the stick and then letting the computer transcribe it for me.
Summary: I use this recorder exclusively for class lectures and could not be happier. Most important feature I was looking for was clarity in a large room. I was very impressed with the sound quality. The recorder does not have to be anywhere near the professor to pick up their voice perfectly!
Summary: I'm perplexed that J Liu's excellent review didn't get a 100% "helpful" rating from readers. I do not have as much experience with digital recorders to add much to that review, so I'll just add a few observations: 1. Don't buy used or "new" without the software (e.g.
Summary: While this recorder is conveniently-sized and has plenty of on-board space, there is also plenty to complain about. With so many features, it is clearly designed for more professional applications. Then why not provide any Mac compatibility at all?
A little more, and a little smaller than the old ICD-ST25

Summary: 6/4/05 - Addendum There's no backlight on the LCD on this model (SX25) so you can't see the display in the dark or low level lighting (the ST25 had a nice green one). Handling noise is much higher on this model, so unless you're very steady-handed, go with an external mic to keep the noise from...
Summary: I purchased this voice recorder to record college lectures and then transcribe them to text. The SX25 has a pretty good amount of recording time for the low quality setting at around 12 hours.
