Poorly designed buttons and no Mac compatibility

Kirk, Amazon
21 October 2013
  • Summary: While this recorder is conveniently-sized and has plenty of on-board space, there is also plenty to complain about. With so many features, it is clearly designed for more professional applications. Then why not provide any Mac compatibility at all? At the very least, why not add a Mac driver somewhere down the road? Disappointing. The button control is very poorly designed.

  • Summary: I've had this thing for over 8 years now. Best voice recorder I've ever had. It's small, fits in your pocket, is easy to use without having to look at it, and has very good voice quality and ability to pick up low level sounds. I also dropped it from about 20' in the air and it survived just fine, although I don't recommend testing it like that. They don't make it anymore, which makes me sad.

  • Summary: I purchased the product for tape recording lectures in school. I sat right up close by the professor. I took it home and it was impossible to listen too. I could not make out a word the professor was speaking and that was at the highest volume. After much arguing I finally got my money back. It is totally useless. Dont waste your money!!!!

Don't lose your manual - No Mac Support

Jill McIntire, Amazon
15 February 2009
  • Summary: So packed full of features it can get overwhelming. If you don't need all the features, you may want to opt for a cheaper model with less features to remember. You can use it as an alarm clock if you can figure out how to set it! The sound quality is very good, but since I switched to a Mac it's useless to me since there is zero support for this product on the Mac. (Otherwise I'd give it 4 stars.

A little more, and a little smaller than the old ICD-ST25

James H. Lui, Amazon
8 January 2009
  • Summary: 6/4/05 - Addendum There's no backlight on the LCD on this model (SX25) so you can't see the display in the dark or low level lighting (the ST25 had a nice green one). Handling noise is much higher on this model, so unless you're very steady-handed, go with an external mic to keep the noise from cancelling out your recorded material (don't bother trying to record from your pocket, or while it's in the velvet carry pouch). Sensitivity has been boosted for 1-4 ft.

Great for College Students

Yoga Girl, Amazon
15 August 2008
  • Summary: I purchased this item for my college bound boyfriend who is studying music. He uses it to record himself on drums, then transfers it to the computer (MP3 files for his MP3 player as well!). Discreet size make this a plus not to mention the digital aspect as well. Overall, a great buy. The price tends to fluctuate on Amazon (as do the quantities), therefore I suggest you nab it once the price is resonable.

Great Device!

Patsy, Amazon
6 July 2008
  • Summary: I work as a journalist and I love this little handheld recording stick. I've managed to integrate it with the voice recognition software that comes with the package so this has saved me hours of time what with dictating my articles into the stick and then letting the computer transcribe it for me.

Excellent recorder - even for music

Julie M., Amazon
23 May 2008
  • Summary: I bought this to record rock shows, after having been impressed with the quality of some bootlegs I'd heard recorded on it earlier in the year. I've recorded four shows so far and considering that this recorder isn't designed for that sort of dynamic range or level, the quality is truly outstanding. Minimal to no distortion, very clean sound. I've heard bootlegs recorded on far more expensive equipment come out far worse.

This little recorder is awesome!

News Gal, Amazon
5 April 2008
  • Summary: I've been in the newspaper business for many years, and I've always used recorders at governmental meetings, interviews, etc. -- much easier and faster than taking notes, and it allows me to focus more on my subject. Until now, I've never had a recorder that could pick up everything without a lot of background noise or without having to turn the tape over or replace it in the midst of the event.

ICD-SX25 Recorder

Ken H., Amazon
16 February 2008
  • Summary: It works quite well. The one thing that needs improvement is the playback volume, which without earphones is a little weak. The device is slim, so I'm not sure if that volume increase can be done without compromising the size. I do like the feature of having three folders (A, B, and C) on the device for saving sound files (99 in each). I use one folder for MP3 music (converted to *.msv files) and the stereo sound is surprisingly good.
