Sony no longer supports this recorder on newer versions of Windows.

Donna L. Nunn, Amazon
3 March 2015
  • Summary: This recorder has been a wonderful product for over 10 years. However, now that I have Windows 7, Sony no longer supports it and I can no longer get my files off of it. Wouldn't recommend you buy this now unless you're using an older computer. No promise for usefulness if you upgrade your computer.

ICD-ST25 Review

*mr-info-man.com*, Ebay
18 September 2008
  • Summary: If you are a male, this is the best recorder. Extensive personal testing verifies the size and quality of the speaker reproduces a lower tone (male) voice better than others. This unit has stereo capability. Useless. Microphones are 1 inch apart. Quality is better, but stereo spearatioon is nil.

Very good for school work

R. Gladwin, Amazon
26 July 2008
  • Summary: I've been using this product since 2004. It is perfect for recording lecture notes, dictating my own notes to myself, etc. The quality of recording in ST and SP modes is superb; just put it on your desk and it'll digitally orient itself and pick up the professor's voice even in large lecture halls.

Perfect for class lectures

Customer "Consumer", Amazon
28 August 2005
  • Summary: I've used mine for classes, just asked permission from professors. The voice quality is great even from the back rows. Sometimes, I used external mic to boost the voice. When I listened with accompanied ear bud, it's like noise cancellation one, I heard like the professors were talking into my ears!

Who came up with these controls?

Doc "Lots of Gadgets", Amazon
18 February 2005
  • Summary: Usually Sony comes up with great products, but this one is a bit shaky. There are so many controls, so many abbreviations for what they do, that it's a bit overwhelming, even after owning this thing for a few months.

Great Voice Recorder

Gary in Va, Amazon
28 January 2005
  • Summary: Works great for voice recording. Records hours of lectures. Upload to computer works great and you can scroll anywhere into the recording to listen to segments. As you scroll just look at the time to decide what part to review. Battery life is good. The buttons work ok for me.

Overkill

JJProma "JJProma", Amazon
23 December 2004
  • Summary: I returned this, after really trying hard to like it. I have large hands, and, the buttons were so small I kept hitting the wrong ones. Further, you have to delicately push back and forth one switch to go from function to function; I don't mean up and down length-wise, but, perpendicular to the...

Light, easy to carry, a little delicate though...

James H. Lui "JHL", Amazon
24 September 2004
  • Summary: Buttons are very small, so large handed/fingered people might have trouble with them. Nice sound quality on SP (7 hr); LP (15 hr) is the usual MP3 on low resolution warble, ST is pretty good, but creates pretty bulky mono-sounding files, unless you're using external stereo mics, or a stereo line-in.
