Summary: This is a good recorder. It has clarity and is easy to use. the only drawback is the fact that it does not have any way to turn it completely off. The batteries have to be removed or they will go dead.
Summary: I want to add my experience with some issues that have been mentioned, in hopes it will be useful to other potential buyers. 1. I had trouble with the control button at first. But I paid attention to how I pushed it, and the result I got, and learned pretty quickly how to use it for consistent results. 2. The directions are understandable, and similar, if not superior, to what you get with other electronic products.
Dazed and confused, frustrated and other things too!

Summary: I have many of the frustrations that some of the other reviewers have mentioned. I have been a fan of Sony products for many years, but this particular product is a frustration to me. I also bought it to go with the Dragon Systems speech recognition software that it came bundle with. The joy stick is a nightmare, for me at least. I have trouble getting it to do what I want it to do.
Summary: This is the best ICD on the world. It's very powerful and it's microphone is very sensitive. Also, the Sony software is controlling every thing and has many powerful controls & options. This Sony ICD-MX20 is the best one. It's very small as a pocket size. I am using it for my business meetings and lessons. I am using the Dragon software to convert my talking into written documents in seconds. The Dragon is the powerful recognition software.
Easy to use digital recorder with high quality sound
21 April 2009
Summary: I have used several digital recorders over the last few years. This is by far one of the best in its price range. Sound is excellent, however the software that comes with it may or may not be compatablie with Vista or Windows 7. The door that opens to remove the card, get loose after a lot of use, and there is a tendecy to drain batteries quickly, but for high quality sound recording in a small package, well worth the money.
Summary: It does everything well. The built-in microphone is very good quality. I also bought a 4 GB memory stick because the default memory is barely enough for a good quality two-hour recording. I would have given it a five-star rating if it weren't for the fact that both the hardware and software (Digital Voice Editor 3.0) are not compatible with Windows Vista. They work fine with XP. I hope that Sony would allow for upgrades of the software and hardware to Vista.
Summary: I am disappointed in this product. Sony ICD-MX20DR9 32MB Flash-Based Digital Voice Recorder This is the only Sony product I ever purchased that was disappointing to me. I have two reasons I have been disappointed with it. The first is I have never found a combination of feature selections that allowed my to satisfactorily record a lecture in a classroom.
Summary: This is a great ICD that does a very accurate job of voice to text translation. However, the product does not come with Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred as described. Instead it comes with a very abbreviated lite version called Naturally Speaking Recorder Edition. You'll have to take advantage of a "special offer" from Nuance, fork over another $30 and reinstall the product to get the benefits of the Preferred edition.
