Summary: Aside from all the complaints already mentioned here (poor audio quality, poor functionality, poor connectivity via USB), this recorder is almost unusable for Mac owners. It saves files in a proprietary version of a .VOC format, which is pretty rare to begin with. Why couldn't they just use .mp3 like everyone else int he world? This forces you to use their extremely clunky RCA brand software just to listen to the files.
Summary: This item is about what you would expect. Sound quality, features, ease of use, all perfectly acceptable. I bought it to use as a handy way of recording notes to myself. It's exactly what I needed.
Summary: I bought this recorder because I wanted to be able to record audio files and download them to my computer so I could e-mail them to people, etc. Well, the audio quality is very poor, and the mini USB jack doesn't take the plug securely -- the plug wobbles and keeps breaking the connection to the computer, so the files get damaged and don't transfer. All in all, a complete wash. I'm taking it back.
Summary: I bought this to record lectures at college. The button control is not user friendly. The middle play button doubles as a toggle stick that you can push up, down, left, and right but its very hard to push it in the direction you want it to go. The usb port on the device does not take the standard usb that comes with most modern cell phones, and the cord is only 8 inches long. The device only has two recording modes.
Summary: Purchased this voice recorder for my lecture classes at college. The good news first. I like that it has a USB cable and the recordings can be downloaded onto my computer. Bad news: Sound quality is horrid. An incessant buzzing sound can be heard no matter where you record. The batteries will not last through a whole lecture. So you'll need to replace the batteries in the middle of the lecture plus you'll need to be constantly purchasing new fresh ones.
Excerpt: A teacher wanted something that students could use to record their own reading voices. They play it back to hear if they use "voice flucuation" in proper place or maybe not at all. Then they go back and re-do the reading adding in the flucuation.Excellent teaching tool!!!!
Pros: Clarity, Compact Design, High Quality Sound, What We Wanted
Summary: Bought this for the USB download ability. Windows XP does not recognize it, so the built-in software was not available to run. I found the software as a download on the RCA website and installed it. Then it downloaded its own update, and installed that. Rebooted my WinXP PC and still it does not recognize the voice recorder. This will go back to the store. I did try it out for recording. The big multi-function button is too senstive.
Summary: Bought this product to record interviews. First of all, it feels like the cheapest product in the universe. Pretty incredible that it costs more than 20 bucks. Extraordinarily lightweight plastic that feels like its lifespan is going to be pretty short. While it's simple to use, playback is fuzzy and sounds distant, even when you hold it close to you. Sounds like others have had better luck using a mic with it. Pretty sure my iPhone could do a better job than this.
