Summary: I bought the Philips DVT to speak my book into machine and translate it into Dragon. I find the directions and symbols to be very tedious to learn. It is not hard, but frankly theres cheap fonts screen looks like something for the 1980's.. It would have been better off with one or two commands for each assignment. The recorder records your voice, but sounds grainy.
Summary: First, for Linux users: setup under wine 1.6.1 in my 64-bit Ubuntu derivative distro took a little effort. I had to install to a 32-bit wineprefix, and the program would only accept my training recording as a .wav file. After training, a number of bugs impeded the full functionality of the software.
For capturing voice - excellent; For Dragon, not so much.

Summary: I broke my old Digital Voice Recorder and decided to spring for this one. I already had Dragon Naturally Speaking on my computer, and it worked just fine, but this recorder comes with Dragon software to convert the audio files directly into text. No need to create a document by reading - or playing the voice recording - "in real time." Rather the software would process and convert the audio.
Summary: I use this to track my ideas and it's awesome! I've used Dragon Speak Naturally before and I've always been impressed by it's accuracy. This device comes with a "lite" version of dragon Speak Naturally, so you basically speak into the digital transcriber, plug it into your computer and it types up what you talked. I use this because I ALWAYS have the greatest book ideas when I'm driving to work, but by the time i get to work I forget them.
Summary: Right now we are having problems. We have loaded it in with profile user but we have been unable to locate the file for the speech that was made. We are having someone look at the computer tonight and if it doesn't work we may have to return for an easier model. The rating is because we have not been able to use it properly.
Summary: Records clearly and picks up voices well with very little background surface noise. Dragon software works great for me, you'll just read some passages they provide for about 5 minutes, then run software and upload your voice recording to computer and allow software analyze your voice. It transcribes very well, of course if it doesn't recognize certain words that you say (usually surnames or foreign words), you'll have to go through and correct the document and add needed...
Summary: I'm not a tech type guy. i'm 57 years old and like buttons and easy to use stuff that also have simple to understand instruction. This unit is not that type. I received very little written instructions and was told to go online to get the full user guide. That contained every model of this recorder and it is very difficult to understand. Also, the reason I purchased this recorder was to get the Dragon software that is included.
