Summary: I wanted a digital recorder to capture conversations, record family history and make notes. This one is easy to use, intuitive and simple. I like the ability to swap MP3's from recorder to computer. The features are convenient to use.
Summary: I started to pass on this one. I looked at so many. Most had some good and downsides according to comments from consumers. I always make my own decision but pay close attention to the negatives. This Olympus VN-8100PC digital voice recorder arrived and I immediately took it to someone who knows technology for them to set things up. Well I could have done it myself. It's that easy. You push record and it records. Now that's what I needed.
Summary: As far as recording voice, it seems to do that just fine. I have no complaints with the controls, battery life, etc. But, if you hold it in your hand and make any movements with your finger tips across the body to locate the stop/pause button it will be picked up by the mic like scraping fingernails across a blackboard. I talked to tech support and they confirmed that the mic does record the absolutely inaudible sound of fingertips moving across the recorder's shell.
Summary: The recorder works great. It has plenty storage and the speaker is loud enough to review what i recorded. Read some bad reviews about the speakers and quality of MUSIC played with the recorder. Suggestion........buy an Ipod to list to music instead.
Summary: This little digital recorder certainly performs, no doubt about that. As far as any issues with quality, I have yet to find any real drawbacks- it is always helpful to remember for a 2GB device, you're getting a *lot* of punch. I've had mine just over a month- with the case, at a price around $62, now they seem to be selling at $69, and my Seller now has them listed at $89... (?). NOTE: I just checked 3/11/12, and the price is back down to around $66 (?) again!

Summary: I usually sit in the middle-back rows of my (90+ student) college classes, and this recorder picks up the entire lecture with no problems. There are no white noise issues and the lectures I play back are always very clear and audible. When you are listening to it though be careful not to turn up the volume too loud in case somebody near to you coughed... or do because It will definitely wake you up.
