The Olympus VN-4100 is a digital voice recorder that measures 1.5 x 4.0 x 0.8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 2.2 ounces. It features an LCD screen that measures 0.91 x 0.98 inches.

The device is powered by two AAA alkaline or NiMH rechargeable batteries that can last from 25 hours (alkaline) to 15 hours (NiMH).

Voice Recorder

The VN-4100 encodes its recordings in CELP+ADPCM format. It has a function for voice activation. Through this function, users can benefit from hands-free recording as the device starts to record as soon as it senses sound. A timer recording option is also available so users can set times for the device to start and stop recording.

Four recording modes are available with the Olympus VN-4100. These include Extra High Quality (XHQ), High Quality (HQ), Standard Play (SP), and Long Play (LP). Depending on which mode is used, the Olympus VN-4100 can record from 11 hours and 40 minutes (XHQ mode) up to 144 hours and 20 minutes (LP mode). ‘

Storage

The VN-4100 comes with built-in 256 megabytes of flash memory. It provides users with 4 folders with each having the capacity to store up to 100 files. It also allows users to make use of index marks at particular points in recordings for accessibility and easy retrieval.

Playback

The Olympus VN-4100 allows users to adjust playback speeds from 25% slower up to 50% faster than real time. It also has an alarm playback feature that automatically plays pre-selected files at a time specified by the user.
