Summary: I have a LANIER that was acting up. Need this for about 1 yr. Lanier seems much higher quality. this item will do but seems a little pricey for the quality I perceived. Nonetheless I am glad this is available.
Summary: This was all I could find when my Sony died and I needed one ASAP. Very cheaply made. The headphone jack is the old size no longer used so I had to get an adapter which then compromised the sound. I would not recommend this if you will be using any headphones made within the last 5 years. If just using it for recording and playback without headphones you may be okay.
QUESTION FOR THOSE FAMILIAR WITH OLYMPUS PEARLCORDER S702

Summary: I purchased the S702, and then read that the S701 is identical except for the color. True? Is there any difference in the features, specs, or construction? If not, I was ripped off having spent close to $70 for a recorder that I could get for $25. Any feedback is appreciated.
Summary: This is a great recorder. The only down side is the headphone plug is a 2.5 mm instead of 3.5 mm. Which some made into a big deal, but it really isn't. It is very sturdy. It has great sound quality and picks up a lot of sound for being very small. I would recommend it to everyone if they need something simple. Works great and am glad I bought it. Also, the seller shipped very fast. I got it in about 3 business days.
Have enjoyed using this to take notes while driving.

Summary: Bought this to take notes while driving. Very handy, always ready, don't have to look for paper & pen, as I can't write while driving anyway. Would buy another if needed. Would recommend to a friend. Seems to work as well as others in its category.
Summary: I purchased this recorder so that I might be able to check the backlog of tapes from my phone answering machine without actually using the answering machine. The Olympus Pearlcorder S702 is so much faster and precise than the answering machine. And I'm not tied to the much bulkier and restrictive answerer. I'm also looking forward to using it as a note taker in my photography work. I love it!
Summary: I got this recorder about 5 years ago. I've been using it less and less since, because I don't have any 2.5mm headphones. I used to have a pair (I don't remember them being included with this unit though), but not anymore. Overall, this is a decent product, but I would recommend looking for a recorder that has a standard 3.5mm jack.
Summary: This microcassette recorder might be good for recording purposes, but I am a medical transcriptionist and use a hand-held recorder at times to review my work before sending it back to the physician. I bought this unit a week or so ago to replacee one I had had for years. When I went to use it tonight and went to plug my earphones in, which I had been able to use on my previous hand-held unit, I found that they didn't fit.
