A little touchy

R. Kerry "Bob K in AZ", Amazon
18 April 2014
  • Summary: I replaced a tape unit with this model. It seems to me the controls are too sensitive. I seem to spend too much time going back and forth to find where I left off.

Recommend to customers

Carey Suante, Amazon
8 April 2014
  • Summary: As a transcriptionist I've been asked for recommendations on digital voice recorders almost every day. I keep recommending this Olympus DS-2500 to a few clients and they are really happy with the ease of using and handling it. I am happy with the recording quality I get to be able to transcribe accurately whatever my clients are recording/dictating it into. I'll keep recommending fantastic recorder to my clients and customers.

Olympus DS 2500 Dictation Machine

J. David Kerr, Amazon
9 November 2013
  • Summary: The recorder is a very good dictation machine. It has all the features I need. I purchased it to replace a DS 5000. The DS 2500 does the job for me. I use it all day in my work. It has a few more buttons to push than the DS 5000 (now 7000) which have a slide operation, but that is no problem for me., The quality of dictation is the same as the DS 5000 from my perspective. The DS 2500 costs new $200 less than the DS 7000 new.

Solved my issue...

Mark Moffitt, Amazon
3 September 2013
  • Summary: I needed a recorder that allowed the user to backup up (rewind) and record over the last part of the message. The cheaper Olympus do not have this ability as they create separate audio files when this is attempted.

Same old, same old

ITguyDave, B&H Photo
9 April 2013
  • Excerpt: We've been reluctantly using the DS-2300, 2400, and now 2500 for years with satisfactory results. The gun-metal color is slightly more attractive than previous models.
  • Pros: Compact Design, Reliable
  • Cons: Price

Good for medical dictations

TV Lover, Amazon
3 February 2013
  • Summary: This is about the best Olympus digital recorder I have found that works for dictations and does not cost an arm and a leg - although I still don't know why it costs so much. This was my second "bulk" purchase of these recorders to replace an older model (I think it wsa the 2100) that was my first dive into the digital recoreder pool.

Poorly designed control buttons

Mitchell A. Weinstein, Amazon
21 December 2012
  • Summary: I have used this device for about a year. While it is good at recording, etc., the control buttons on the recorder have been a problem. They are small, closely placed, are all the same size, and they cannot be differentiated by feel alone. This has led to unintentional reversing, over-recording, loss of dictatations and similar frustrations.

A high quality, purpose built recorder perfect for capturing audio from dictation, interviews, speeches, and conferences

Bob Tobias "Robert Tobias", Amazon
8 December 2012
  • Summary: Key points include easy to operate controls, a high visibility display, solid construction, and a professional appearance. Controls: The control buttons are large, easy to press on purpose and difficult to press accidently. With the included leather case closed you can still start, pause, and stop recording. You can also begin a new recording and place the recorder in standby mode. This is everything you would want to do while you're "in the field".
