To play older or damaged VHS tapes, this unit is your Huckleberry.

  • Summary: I am using this VCR to capture old VHS tapes via my PC. It has proven to be nearly perfect for the task. The Time Base Correction helps keep the PC from losing sync during rough patches of tape. Occasionally the capture freezes up if you try to a play a particularly bad section of tape, but this is rare. The front controls are a little annoying to me because it only has a shuttle control. I would have liked separate FWD/REV buttons - but this is a minor annoyance.

Amazing!

  • Summary: For me this machine and at this price is a dream. Sexy and sheek design, fantastic slow motion, jog shuttle operation, advanced programming, inert editing, multiple audio track recording, advanced video editing capability. Quality is amazing when recording S-VHS resolution on a regular VHS tape. The JVC equipment is very good! I couldn't be happier. Everything works flawless -- no problems of any kind at all. I overall was very pleased with JVC quality and creativity.

excellent picture quality, sluggish tape transport

  • Summary: I bought this VCR to replace my 10-year old trusty Sony VCR. Unfortunately, Sony no longer offered a VCR which allowed adjustment of audio levels during record ... Overall, I've been pleased with this VCR after 3 years of ownership. The picture quality is OUTSTANDING, and the digital noise reduction is fantastic. At the time, JVC was the only manufacturer offering this feature - since then Sony and others have introduced similar features.

Reliability

Donn R Linton, Amazon
27 March 2002
  • Summary: Over a period of two years I purchased three JVC S-VHS decks, including this model. Each one failed at about two years, possibly through lack of use - certainly not over-use. Considering my 8 year old Sony VHS and 15 and 18 year old BETAs continue to operate flawlessly, I would not be able to recommend any JVC tape unit.

A VCR fit for a king!

Paul Christensen "gadget geek", Amazon

  • Summary: Excellent image quality & a noticeable improvement to quality of old tapes by digital time-base corrector and noise reduction (much less noise, esp. in dark areas). Even features an image stabilizer for tapes with vertical wobble/jitter. Improvement in audio clarity. Excellent feature provides continuous, normal-pitch audio in slow-mo and 1.5x playback (imagine watching recorded newscasts in only 14.7 minutes (if you skip commercials)!).
