Summary: So far, I really like this vacuum. I have mainly hardwood and tile with two runners. This picks up all of the dirt and pet hair--much better than my former Dyson was doing at the end of it's life. The Dyson was a wonderful but heavy vacuum to lug around--had the Animal for many years and finally got to the point where too many pieces needed replacing. The hose broke regularly on the Dyson.
All the features that are talked about like it being lightweight

Summary: I have been using an Electrolux canister for over 25 years and it was ready to retire. I started researching canister vacuums for over a year and finally decided on the Alize and it is worth every penny. All the features that are talked about like it being lightweight, quiet and quality performance were right on target. This is an amazing vacuum that will possibly outlive my old electrolux which means I will never have to buy another vacuum cleaner!
Summary: Okay, who wants to buy a new vacuum cleaner? I certainly don't want to spend a lot of money on one and it breaks my heart when I have to do it. I've owned many in my life, from the cheapest to all the Dyson ones, which are very expensive, too. I was talked into this vacuum by my local vacuum store manager when I took my fairly new Dyson in for repair. It couldn't be fixed, and that right there told me I'd never buy another one. So I went home with this Miele Alize.
Summary: It takes a little getting used to, but I love this vacuum. 1. Very quiet 2. Swivel head is awesome 3. The air blows UP instead of out the back, which means it's not blowing unvacuumed dust into the air and corners. 4. Powerful cord retraction. One push and let go, the cord continues to wind up perfectly. (there is pro and con on this, see below) 5. LONG cord 6. Adjustable length for the wand. 7.
Summary: Ever since we bought our first Miele vacuum cleaner whilst stationed in Hong Kong 25 years ago we have never even considered another brand. These are the reasons: a. German engineering - need I say more? b. Lowest Noise - even the one I bought 25 years ago, still working today with a voltage adapter to drop from 220 to 110 volts, is the quietest machine ever made. I notice that even the Miele vacs of today rate tops on low noise category.

Summary: Hard to vacuum surfaces and dirt on hard floors is instantly picked up. Carpets appear to be thoroughly vacuumed which has been at a loss to me. This machine handles it all. I will have to agree with other posters that the wand is quite heavy for cleaning over head.
