Summary: Mieles are the best vacuum I could find and this one is very nice. As a side note, I ordered the older model Capricorn to save a few hundred dollars on the price, but what I got was the Uniq, the newer model. Not complaining, but this review is not for the Capricorn but for the Uniq. Love everything about it, especially that they put the on-off switch on the handle and the cords inside the tubes so you don't have to plug and unplug when changing to the powered brush.
Summary: I was considering a Dyson and the Miele S5981 Capricorn. After reading online reviews and perusing video comparisons I went with the Miele. The vacuum is surprisingly quiet for the tremendous amount of suction generated. Having experience with my trusty but extraordinarily loud, Hoover Windtunnel, I didn't think the Miele was generating much suction since the noise level was abated to such a great degree.
Summary: It works ok on carpet, doesn't suck up the small crumbs on hard wood floors. After a few months it started shutting itself off every 5 or 10 minutes. Looked online and found others having the same problems. Something about a circuit board in the handle getting zapped. Contacted the Amazon supplier, they sent me to Miele. Miele sent me to a service center who told me they don't want to support people who buy online. Then he tried to sell me bags and hepa filter. Nice!
Summary: We have had numerous top-rated (by Consumers Reports) vacuums, mostly Kenmores, and they all failed prematurely (my opinion) due to low quality of manufacture. The last Intuition failed at the powerhead after a couple of years. The electrical connection would not stay together and the head would start and stop in use. Finally the cheap plastic moving parts just cratered. I tried to order replacement parts and learned they were back-ordered with no estimated ship date.
Summary: I didn't quite believe the vacuum would be as quiet as advertised in the product description. When using it for wood floors, it IS whisper quiet. on the lower settings, I can barely even hear the vacuum. When vacuuming carpets, the unit is audible but no where near any vacuum I've owned before. I even prefer it to the central vacuum system that runs in my house - low noise and no giant hose to lug around. Also of note, this baby turns on a dime, so to speak.
Summary: When I first got the vacuum cleaner I tried all of the hardest jobs around the house to put it to the test. It was important to me to validate such an expenditure for a vacuum cleaner. Needless to say, it passed the test with flying colors. We have a mix of wood floors and various piles of carpeting in our house with the usual types of furniture that must be vacuumed around, under, and behind. The vacuum, as so many reviews that I read, is well worth the extra money.
Summary: This is definitely the most expensive vac I've ever purchased! Having gone through several other brands of fairly expensive vacuums that didn't clean well, failed within a just few years, and ultimately just proved disappointing, I spent a great deal of time researching, reading blog reviews and contemplating this choice. I finally decided to take the plunge and buy Miele, and so far, I'm glad I did.
Summary: I've been using the same upright for over 20 years and finally bought this new Miele. It's quiet and easy to use. Not too heavy to lift up the stairs which is important in a 3 story home. I use the parquet twister on my hardwoods and tiles and even on my throw rugs. I haven't tried the big beater carpet attachment because I have no carpet.
Summary: We purchased our new Miele Capricorn because our last German made Miele lasted 18 years. They are built with quality components and engineered to last. We of course also like they way they work, this vac. does a great job keeping our home clean. My wife and I always buy Miele products. We like products that are made to last and last. We also approve of the way they treat employees.
