Excerpt: Staples did everything right. this is my second one. The first one was returned. It soundeds like an old car ready to break down and the light indicating dirt pick up would not work. Staples took care of it and sent me a new one.Naturally, the old one was sent back at no charge. The second one came and it started to smell like burnt rubber. Having owned hoovers before I recognized it as a bad belt.
Summary: VERY DISPPOINTED, WE HAD IT SHIPPED TO OUR HOUSE, WHEN WE TOOK IT OUT OF THE BOX & TRIED IT IT DID NOT SELF-PROPEL. CALLED THE TELEPHONE NUMBER ON THE BOX, WAS GIVEN THE OPTION OF RETURNING IT TO A STORE OR TAKING IT TO AN AUTHORIZED REPAIR CENTER. TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR CENTER AND WAS TOLD THE SELF-PROPEL BELT WAS BROKEN. ALSO TOLD BELTS AREN'T COVERED BY WARRANTY. SO WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE BROKEN BELT TO BE REPLACED BEFORE WE EVER GOT TO USE IT.
Summary: I'm a disabled (physically challenged, whatever!) woman who still needs to clean house (two shedding feline monster masters run this household!) unless I want to pick up the phone and have someone do it for me. So ... I require a self-propelled vacuum. Hoover wasn't my first choice in brand/flavor names, but I've owned them before and they're reliable enough to get the job done for as long as they last. I haven't owned this one for long ...
Summary: I love the suction on this vacuum. However, I am disappointed that the on/off button malfunctioned on the 2nd time I used it. That required me to remove the handle and dicker with it. The on/off switch mechanism is hinkey at best. The good news is that it stuck in the ON position so at least I had no trouble using the unit. Another side note: I am finding the replacement bags difficult to find.
Summary: We purchased this product in October 2009 and it was used for the first time after Christmas. In less than 6 weeks and having been used 5 times, the belt used to power the self-propelled mechanism as well as the rotating brushes broke. Not really sure whether this was such a deal or not, but we've got a few more belts on the way. Time will tell.
Summary: We waited to receive the vacuum with anticipation, since it was well rated by consumer reports. We are also previous Hoover owners and were pleased in the past. My complaint is not with Hoover but more with Amazon. When we started the vacuum it was difficult to push, the engine worked but the beater brush would not turn. Upon taking it apart, we discovered the belt (looked new) was in 2 pieces. My beef is with quality assurance.
Summary: I've owned this vac for about 2 weeks and find that it cleans very well, handles nicely and is easy to use. HOWEVER, the V-belt that drives the brush roller has already broken! The manual says that this belt "is designed to last a long time and is not normally replaced." Baloney! If you happen to push the vac over a light rug, it will suck it up and BAM, the belt will no longer drive the brush roller; i.e the vac will not work.
