Summary: VERY DISPPOINTED, WE HAD IT SHIPPED TO OUR HOUSE, WHEN WE TOOK IT OUT OF THE BOX & TRIED IT IT DID NOT SELF-PROPEL. CALLED THE TELEPHONE NUMBER ON THE BOX, WAS GIVEN THE OPTION OF RETURNING IT TO A STORE OR TAKING IT TO AN AUTHORIZED REPAIR CENTER. TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR CENTER AND WAS TOLD THE SELF-PROPEL BELT WAS BROKEN. ALSO TOLD BELTS AREN'T COVERED BY WARRANTY. SO WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE BROKEN BELT TO BE REPLACED BEFORE WE EVER GOT TO USE IT.
Summary: I'm a disabled (physically challenged, whatever!) woman who still needs to clean house (two shedding feline monster masters run this household!) unless I want to pick up the phone and have someone do it for me. So ... I require a self-propelled vacuum. Hoover wasn't my first choice in brand/flavor names, but I've owned them before and they're reliable enough to get the job done for as long as they last. I haven't owned this one for long ...
Summary: I love the suction on this vacuum. However, I am disappointed that the on/off button malfunctioned on the 2nd time I used it. That required me to remove the handle and dicker with it. The on/off switch mechanism is hinkey at best. The good news is that it stuck in the ON position so at least I had no trouble using the unit. Another side note: I am finding the replacement bags difficult to find.
Summary: We purchased this product in October 2009 and it was used for the first time after Christmas. In less than 6 weeks and having been used 5 times, the belt used to power the self-propelled mechanism as well as the rotating brushes broke. Not really sure whether this was such a deal or not, but we've got a few more belts on the way. Time will tell.
Summary: We waited to receive the vacuum with anticipation, since it was well rated by consumer reports. We are also previous Hoover owners and were pleased in the past. My complaint is not with Hoover but more with Amazon. When we started the vacuum it was difficult to push, the engine worked but the beater brush would not turn. Upon taking it apart, we discovered the belt (looked new) was in 2 pieces. My beef is with quality assurance.
Summary: While it worked, this vacuum was superb. But on the 21st day, it sounded a little odd and started to have a electric burn smell. I thought the the bag might be clogged, so I switched it out and gave it another go. A few minutes later, the vacuum made a little sizzle, gave up the ghost, and left more stink. It seems other reviewers had the same issue (although I didn't see the smoke). I'm lucky to have bought it locally and will be exchanging it, tomorrow.
Summary: I bought this vacuum mainly for the self-propelled feature. My wife has some medical issues which causes pain in her arms, and our old vacuum was just too difficult for her to use. We got the Hoover U6485-900, and it works as advertised. When activated, it self-propels easily making vacuuming an easy chore. We also like the on-board tools which are easy to use and stored in easy to reach places.
