Summary: Although the vacuum arrived nice and clean, it was missing the screws that secure the handle to the body. Also the clips that hold the extension wands were broken and the filter was filthy. When I plugged the vacuum in, the motor made a awful smell and funny sound and did not come up to full power. I returned this vacuum the next day. The Vendor said the vacuum was used in very good condition.
Summary: After reading reviews and seeing that Consumer Reports rated this so high, I went for it. Now I wish I had not. Nothing at all has broken and the vacuum works, there are just some major design flaws that I cannot believe made it to the consumer market. Pros 1) Oh man is this thing powerful. It sucks up everything. Cons 1) You cannot switch from floor to carpet if until you stand it upright and then bend over and make the adjustment.
Summary: Received the product and assembled it without a problem. I turned the vacuum on and it ran for about 30 seconds then it stopped forward movement and started to smoke. We checked settings and removed and replace handle. The brush rollers would not turn. Took the bottom off and found that the wider belt was severed. I will order a new belt but I am not happy.
Summary: This is one of a series of Hoover vacuums that have the same poorly designed power switch and belt mechanisms. Both mechanisms are so badly planned and executed that they fail repeatedly, requiring unscrewing cover plates and resetting the parts so that they will function. The power switch is just a long stem reaching from the handle to the body of the vacuum, where a toggle switch is installed.
Summary: The vacuum was okay, but I wasn't as happy with it as I expected to be. Now 18 months after purchasing it it has stopped working but has a 3 year warranty so I'm working to see what Hoover can do for me. I had the hardest time finding the serial # only to find it had been blacked out on the manufacturer label.
Summary: The first time I tried to use it after we unpacked it, the brushes would not turn. I had to take it to a Hoover dealer in Chicago to have it fixed. Evidently the belt was off. I assume it was put on incorrectly at the factory. Hopefully that does not indicate it's future performance. I was really disappointed to say the least and lost a half day of work.
Summary: I have a dog, 2 cats, small kids and mostly hardwoods and area rugs. I bought this vacuum based on Consumer Reports high rating for my needs. The self propelled function works great in the one room with wall to wall carpet, but on the tile and hard woods, the vacuum is careening out of control. It sounds like a screeching race car and then bumps hard into my furniture and molding along the walls.
Hoping this is a quirk ... but I'm still disappointed.

Summary: Reading some of the negative reviews on this product (the Y6485900 model), I had a few reservations but, given the approval of the majority of reviewers and Consumer Rpts recommendation, I went ahead with my purchase in June 2009 and had no complaints: it arrived safely by the first of July, assembled easily and performed well.
Summary: I had similar problems as other customers. My motor burned out after a year of light use. I bought a refurbished one and it was missing a few screws. I put it together as best I could but the handle was constantly loose.
Summary: I received the vacuum from Amazon and, when I opened the box, it was obvious that the vacuum was not "factory fresh". I could tell by the way the vacuum was packed in the box, and by the way the packing tape was applied, that the unit must have been opened,re-packaged,returned, and sold as "new" by Amazon. The vacuum itself is a little loud and some of the switches could be of a better quality, but it seems to do the job adequately.
