Summary: These cleaners have two positives. They are inexpensive and they are far cheaper than a serivce company and you aren't using a machine that will rarely be clean. The biggest problem is not Walmart but Hoover. they are not made to survive intact more than two years. I have purchased a number of these over the years knowing that they will either leak, the brushes quit, or the water pickup will end up with a defective seal. Never while in warranty though.
Summary: We read hundreds of reviews for residential carpet cleaners and it came down to this and a Bissell Liftoff Deep Cleaner. Purchased this unit and Walmart definitely had the best price. Item arrived quickly, was fairly easy to put together. Quick instructions in box were easy to follow. LOVED the 2 tanks. Only problem was I put machine together in about 10 minutes, filled it up, went to clean rug and entire tank of water and solution dumped out.
Summary: I purchased this cleaner March 11, 2011 and when I used it for the first time, it exceeded my expectations! Unfortunately, the second time I used it on March 28, 2011 it had stopped "sucking" water. I immediately boxed it up and exchanged it at WM. I've used the "new" one 3 times and on my 4th try, August 6, 2011, it once again stopped "sucking" water. I've boxed it back up and will return/exchange it again this week.
Excerpt: despite the VERY cheaply made parts that DON'T fit together properly (or some at all), the machine cleans well. Whatever engineering genius decided it would be a good idea to 1)insert the power cord below the hose to knock the hose off every few minutes and 2)make it a super-pain-in-the-rear to use the hose at all by having to remove EVERYTHING just to connect it should be shot. If I had to use this frequently I would have returned it.
Summary: Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge, F5914-900 This item got mostly favorable reviews so purchased it in October 2012. It had a 3 month return policy. Unfortunately, it lost its suction and with no warranty, it was a waste of money. My suggestion, do not purchase on line and without a one or two year warranty for repair.
