Summary: These cleaners have two positives. They are inexpensive and they are far cheaper than a serivce company and you aren't using a machine that will rarely be clean. The biggest problem is not Walmart but Hoover. they are not made to survive intact more than two years.
Summary: We read hundreds of reviews for residential carpet cleaners and it came down to this and a Bissell Liftoff Deep Cleaner. Purchased this unit and Walmart definitely had the best price. Item arrived quickly, was fairly easy to put together. Quick instructions in box were easy to follow.
Excerpt: We borrowed the Hoover Steam Vac carpet cleaner from a relative to save money and try and clean carpets ourselves. Being a Hoover, we assume that it would be a good quality vacuum and perform wonderfully.
Summary: This item got mostly favorable reviews so purchased it in October 2012. It had a 3 month return policy. Unfortunately, it lost its suction and with no warranty, it was a waste of money. My suggestion, do not purchase on line and without a one or two year warranty for repair.
This is not a durable machine too many little breakable parts.

Excerpt: I have had this machine three different times. We had bought it from Best Buy with the insurance, thankfully. We had to return it three times and the last time I just went with Bissell. There are many things that if they go wrong with this machine it will not run.
Excerpt: despite the VERY cheaply made parts that DON'T fit together properly (or some at all), the machine cleans well. Whatever engineering genius decided it would be a good idea to 1)insert the power cord below the hose to knock the hose off every few minutes and 2)make it a super-pain-in-the-rear to use...
OOPS I should have chose something else not the hoover steamvac

Excerpt: I purchased the Hoover steamvac carpet cleaner because it looked and did hold more water than other cleaners I looked at. It cost 139.00 at Walmart. It has lots of extras but you don't know where to put them. I was stuck with cords, wires hanging out the back dragging the floor and scaring me.
Excerpt: Bought carpet cleaner in Nov 09. Drive pin on green brush broke April 10. Took it to authorized repair center and the man said it was not covered. Call Hoover an dgot same story. Drive pin is plastic. Cleaner did ok job. My problem is with Hoover refusing to cover it.
Excerpt: I borrowed this from a friend of mine before making a purchase on a carpet cleaner. I am glad I didn't buy this for a few reasons: 1. Messy - I got water on me trying to figure out how to get everything on/off right. 2. Confusing - there are lots of parts and fasteners to deal with.

Excerpt: I own a cleaning company so i have used all kinds of carpet cleaners. This is just ok. It does not clean all that well. It very bulky and very hard to move around. You wll also need a large closet to store it in. Id like Hoovers carpet cleaner solvents thatcome with it.
