Summary: After owning a Dyson vacuum for several years, it was finally time to get a 'fresh' start. We had been very pleased with the suctioning power of our original Dyson so it was an easy choice to stay with the brand. We are so disappointed with this vacuum and the $400 we wasted. The first day it worked OK, but it definitely lost suctioning power each time it was plugged in.
Summary: I have had this for a couple of months. It does not pick up anymore. It is not clogged and the filter is clean. This is one of the worst vacuums I have owned, and the most expensive. The tool system is awkward and cumbersome. When you put the handle up, it doesn't always catch so the thing falls over. The carrying handle is uncomfortable. I will not buy this brand again.
Summary: I hate to admit I was wrong so writing this is hard. I researched the Dyson and thought that spending the extra money would be worth it. We have had this vacuum for over a year and it is the WORST investment I ever made. 1) The button that turns the beater bar on and off will not turn on once it is turned off. Making switching between floor types difficult. 2) The ball does not fit under anything. Makes vacuuming under furniture impossible.
Summary: Got this Dyson DC40 (refurbished) from Overstock.com. This vacuum does its job but is unbearably loud and this is a DEALBREAKER. We spent almost 3 times more money on this vacuum cleaner compared to an equal performer and thought we are getting a well-designed, quality product. Initially we were happy with its performance, but now the noise is too much. Feels like they put a jet engine inside this vacuum cleaner, it is that loud.
Summary: This is a mediocre machine and i got sucked in by the hype (no pun intended). I bought it directly from the manufacturer who asked for, but has not posted my review (all of their reviews are 4 and 5 stars). The plastic feels brittle like it will crack with the slightest bang, the suction between carpet and wooden floor is lost leaving dust and crumbs all over the place, the hose is really stiff and if you pull it (which you have to) the machine falls over.
Summary: If you are planning on using this on low pile or tile flooring, forget it. The suction is terrible. On carpeting, it's just okay, but on anything lower pile or flooring, the suction is sub-par. The vacuum is not worth 1/2 of the money. Also, the extension hose is not long enough and you have to use it in an awkward way. The rotating head small attachment works okay. Buy something else.
Never Before Been a Dyson Owner and Once this Breaks Never Will Again

Summary: what is all the fuss about with Dyson? I will never know! this hoover is light and easy to manoeuvre. that is all I can say, It states in the advert it is twice the suction of any upright hoover. that's a blatant lie, its suction is very so so, for the price I was expecting it to be trying to lift the carpet like miele that I have used before.
Summary: There was NO comparison to my old regular Dyson and this one. The beater bar and bristles are smaller and spaced further apart, the vacuum was loud and making a lot of cracking noises which made me think I put it together wrong but I did not and I was having a hard time just moving it around. It wanted to jerk from side to side instead of forward and back. It didn't suction nearly as well as my old Dyson.
