Summary: I hate to admit I was wrong so writing this is hard. I researched the Dyson and thought that spending the extra money would be worth it. We have had this vacuum for over a year and it is the WORST investment I ever made. 1) The button that turns the beater bar on and off will not turn on once it is turned off. Making switching between floor types difficult. 2) The ball does not fit under anything. Makes vacuuming under furniture impossible.
Summary: Got this Dyson DC40 (refurbished) from Overstock.com. This vacuum does its job but is unbearably loud and this is a DEALBREAKER. We spent almost 3 times more money on this vacuum cleaner compared to an equal performer and thought we are getting a well-designed, quality product. Initially we were happy with its performance, but now the noise is too much. Feels like they put a jet engine inside this vacuum cleaner, it is that loud.
Summary: This is a mediocre machine and i got sucked in by the hype (no pun intended). I bought it directly from the manufacturer who asked for, but has not posted my review (all of their reviews are 4 and 5 stars). The plastic feels brittle like it will crack with the slightest bang, the suction between carpet and wooden floor is lost leaving dust and crumbs all over the place, the hose is really stiff and if you pull it (which you have to) the machine falls over.
Summary: I love how lightweight and easy to push the vacuum is. I am a little disappointed in the suction. I was expecting it to pick up everything. But I know it is picking up a lot because I have to dump the canister frequently.
Summary: If you are planning on using this on low pile or tile flooring, forget it. The suction is terrible. On carpeting, it's just okay, but on anything lower pile or flooring, the suction is sub-par. The vacuum is not worth 1/2 of the money. Also, the extension hose is not long enough and you have to use it in an awkward way. The rotating head small attachment works okay. Buy something else.
Summary: I chose this product based on 3 things: 1. Ads 2. Staff recommendation 3. Owner recommendation I am very happy with this product's ability to pick up loose dog hair from my hardwood floors. I also like the ease at which this vacuum transitions from hardwood to area rug cleaning. This vacuum is also very easy to empty which means that you can empty the dirt collector many times during your cleaning, if you want to.
Summary: The vacuum part of this unit works really well and it does have great suction power. But it gets clogged way to easy, and in three different parts of the vacuum. The hose, body, and the front and I mean clogs very easy. Getting at these parts is not that easy either, even though they make it look so. Love the cleaning, hate the "loss of suction".
Summary: The machine does a wonderful job of picking up hair which , of course, it was designed for. The appliance has many design defects. The on/off button is too low and is right next to the canister release button, resulting in release of the canister rather than turning it on or off. The cord is not long enough. Extraction of the wand is awkward and tedious. The extension hose does not stretch well.
