Summary: Before I got this Dyson, I had a Kenmore canister vacuum for years. In general I liked my Kenmore, but it was falling apart and it I wanted to try a vacuum that used one head to do bare floors and rugs (I don't have carpet, but several area rugs that need the brush power to really pick up all the dog hair, etc.) I was tired of switching from a bare floor attachment to the powered brush head to get all the jobs done.
Summary: This is such a disappointing piece of equipment. I purchased it because it is light weight and because I have two cats, one with long hair. I have had this vacuum less than a year. Normally, my house cleaner uses it, but I tried to use it myself recently. I knew the canister was very small, but I had not realized that the warning line to empty it is only about 1/3rd of the way up the canister. That is equivalent to vacuuming about 1/2 of a large area rug.
Summary: I was initially really excited to get my DC39 after reading reviews and all of the hype. In the end, I feel like I've been totally had. This is BY FAR the worst appliance of any kind that I've ever purchased. I'm not sure what Mr. Dyson was thinking, but the houses in the UK must be no larger than 500 sf and everyone must be limited to owning one Jack Russell Terrier. Vacuum one room, empty the container, vacuum another, empty again, repeat, repeat.
ALLERGY saver -- I used to think everything was actually clean before my Dyson

Summary: ----UPDATE---- It has been several weeks since I brought this product & WOW!!! I have chronic allergies that, unfortunately, are not adequately managed by prescription medications. I normally have to take Advil Cold & Sinus a few times a week to get through the bad days. Just today, I realized that I haven't taken any in over two weeks! The only thing that I've changed during this time is my vacuum cleaner! All I did was vacuum the carpet and dust with this..
Summary: I am a mom of 2 active children and we own 1 very large shedding dog - our home is mostly hard wood, with carpeting in the bedrooms. I vacuum twice a week. After much research I purchased on the Dyson DC39 Animal and have owned it for over a year. I cannot stand this thing! One major problem I have is the power head - in my 1st year it had to be replaced 3 times.
Summary: My wife wanted this for a holiday present. (It wasnt a trap, she actually wanted it as a present) So i pulled a bit of overtime, and saved up for it. I gotta say, its great that she is happy with it (I think shes happy with the prestige of it more than its performance) The brissels on the main vacuum head are powered by the suction created by the main hose. Which works okay, as long as you arent on any thicker and deeper pile carpets.
Summary: I did buy this vacuum but not from Amazon. Received it last night and after vacuuming my 8' round area rug the swivel head brush stopped working. I should have read all the reviews here before buying this overpriced hunk of plastic junk. My little Hoover upright that I bought here has more suction than this thing. No more Dysons in my house. Sending this back today!!
Summary: This vacuum does it all. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats, and we have been impressed how well it cleans up both our hardwood and carpet. It is easy to remove the dirt and hair from the canister, and washing out the filter is super easy to wash out. We couldn't be happier!
