Lasted 5 months

Craig McHugh, Amazon
22 June 2014
  • Summary: I purchased this non-OE brushroll because it got overall good reviews. It lasted for 5 months of normal use, (vacuuming once a week) and then failed. The worst part is when it seized up it burned up the new belt I had replaced at the same time. The return policy is only 30 days so beware. This is why you are often better off paying more for the OE parts. Now I have to pay 50% more for the roller plus a new belt!

If you want a work out and a headache buy it

Pickycustomer99, Amazon
28 December 2011
  • Summary: If you want a workout and a headache buy it. This vacuum cleaner is very bulky. It's very loud. It's heavy. The fan blows very strong on the left and you're chasing dirt and hair that it blows. The wand sucks too hard. Could use a brake when using the wand. The hose is too tight. When you use the wand the whole vacuum moves with as you move. Not good if you are using around stairs.

Disappointed!

gracie1, Amazon
3 May 2011
  • Summary: I bought the Dyson DC17 in 2009 from another site. My Dyson has broken down twice in about 20 vacuums of my house. We have no pets and only three of us living in our home. I find myself going back to my old reliable vacuum everytime I sweep. The person repairing the vacuum, via phone, was short and preoccupied with something else when I called for help.

marketing triumph but crappy overpriced vacuum

Comparative Anatomist, Amazon
16 March 2011
  • Summary: I've had a DC17 for a couple of years and we have a 2800 square foot house with LOTS of carpet, hardwood floors, and area carpets so I put this beast through its paces. Where to begin? First, the vacuum is better at spewing dust than sucking it up. I need to go over the same glob of cat hair forty times before I eventually decide to pick it up by hand or get out my 18 year old Eureka to finish the job right. The small holes in the canister are chronically clogged.

Never stops breaking

Madro, Amazon
16 March 2011
  • Summary: I will never again buy a Dyson. Their "customer service" is non existent. The vacuum is a poor product and I can not recommend. I have had to have it fixed 5 times in the last 2 years. Do yourself a favor and do not buy a Dyson.

DYSON SUCKS....BUT NOT THE WAY YOU WANT IT TO!!!!!

flygirl66, Amazon
10 February 2011
  • Summary: I have asthma and am not supposed to have my three dogs...but I love them...and controlling their hair is a must...so I broke down and bought this vacuum thinking it would be the answer to my dog hair/vacuuming/respiratory problems - WRONG!!! From the repeated emptying of the canister - that has to be taken apart in multiple pieces to clean it properly because it clogs at the top with dirt & dog hair after one room is done - to choking on the cloud of dust that this...

NOT WORTH THE MONEY - Motor is made in China

Average Customer, Amazon
27 December 2010
  • Summary: Our Dyson was used at a second home whom we visited on average one weekend per month. So 14 months old and used, at the very most, 28 times before breaking - not acceptable. It basically cost us $44.99 per vacuum of 1200 square foot home. The Vacuum (Dyson 17) was great, for about 1 year. Then several little things needed to be replaced and you can't buy parts (even simple ones like filters) at any retailers. All parts have to come directly from Dyson.

  • Summary: I fell for the Dyson sales pitch and saved up to buy this one. I have had this model vacuum for a year and a half now. For about the first 7 months I loved it. Now every time I have to use it I cringe. I have 4 pets and quite a bit of fur. The wand is impossible to remove unless I unscrew the bottom curve part and pull the hose out from the bottom to release it from being stuck. It's like it's vacuum packed (pun intended)!
