Summary: I own a Dyson DC17. It works GREAT. I love it and I'm not the "Oh look at this vacuum!" kind of guy. But it does work awesomely. So I bought my mom this DC14 after she said she would like one. Crap. It has a weird clutch system and the clutch kept slipping and made horrible noise (this is right out of the box).
Wanted to Love It, But Couldn't....Broke within minutes

Summary: Oh, I wanted to love this vacuum. I paid extra for overnight shipping and paced around until it arrived. From the beginning, this was looking like a good purchase. Even though it's a refurbished unit, it came in excellent packaging and looked brand new. It's easy to put together and the manual wasn't that bad, like others had said. I started it up and it is nice and quiet (relative to other vacuums I've used). My toddlers didn't even mind being in the same room with it.
Summary: The vaccuum came in great condition and seems to work well. My only complaint (and it's a big one) is that the warranty information in the product subscription is wrong. Really wrong. It claims the vaccuum comes with a 5 year warranty but it's only a 6 month warranty if you buy it refurbished. And only a 1 year warranty brand new according to my owner's manual.
Summary: After reading the reviews, and seeing that this was on sale, I decided to take the plunge as well. My other vacuum was constantly needing belts or filters, so, I thought I would see what happens with the Dyson. It worked well. It was not as dramatic as some of the other reviews, but, it did pull out cat hair from our carpet that the other left behind. My wife likes the telescoping feature and says it is easier to push. I kind of do miss having a light on it, though.
Summary: While I agree I have never had a vacuum cleaner with such great suction, I found using it exhausting and hurt my back. I took it back, thank you Walmart. I have wood floors, large low pile area rugs and high pile area rugs. It would not hardly move on the high pile rug and was not user friendly when going from one pile to another.
Summary: As soon as I assembled the vacuum I tried it on a bare floor and it seemed to work fine. I then switched the setting to carpet and tried it on an oriental rug and the belt immediately started a very loud clicking noise. Stopped the machine and checked to see nothing was tangled but there was nothing. Repeated this a few times on other rugs and carpet and got same result.
Excerpt: The dyson animal vacuum isn't the worst vacuum in the world, but it certainly isn't worth the money. It isn't any better at picking up the animal hair than any other vacuum I've owned. for it to pick up the best, you have to hold it almost completely upright. the attachments aren't very great either. when you extend the hose, only half of it is flexible, the other half of it is metal, so you half to keep repositioning the vacuum as you clean with it.
Summary: I am very unhappy with this vacuum as it started making loud noises the third time I used it. We checked it out for obstructions and haven't found anything. The design of the front is also inconvenient since there is a part that sticks up too high to get under my kitchen cabinets, etc.We are returning it and will not be getting another one.
Summary: Bought this vacuum a year ago and it already needs to be replaced. I use my vacuums a lot and I'm hard on them and this one couldnt keep up. I vacuum bird seeds and nuts and dog hair several times a day. So this vacuum has had more than normal use. It is made almost entirely of plastic. Dyson claims it doesnt loose suction over time, which is probably true if you keep it clean and it top operating condition all the time. But it does need to be cleaned often.
