Summary: I have many flash drives with the same slide in and out design, and all but this one work perfectly. You have to hold the piece out and hope that while you insert it, it doesn't slide back in. If it weren't 8GB I would throw it away.
Summary: Probably wouldn't buy another transcend unless it is faster.
Pros: Decent when it worked. I like the sliding mechanism
Cons: Pretty slow especially when copying multiple files. I have requested and RMA on this product as it has died on me after less than a year. System detects the drive but says it is unformatted. Won't reformat no matter I do. Lost all my data
Summary: Considering its main use was as a persistent Fedora Live boot, I suppose its within the realm of possibility that particular sections reached their write limits, but I find this hard to believe.
Pros: Compact design--the retractable design is something I will expect in a solid state drive from now on. I was literally blown away by the cost for 8 GB.
Cons: No issue for several months--now the device has stopped functioning entirely. I will not be shopping bottom of the price spectrum for a flash drive again!
Cons: while I can use the whole area of this drive, it will not accept individual files 4.0gb in size or larger (no dvd content transfering). Also, the slide to lock the port out, does not also lock it in, it will slide out at the most inopportune time.
Summary: Not bad for the price, but not worth buying for anything other than data storage and/or backup.
Pros: 8 gigs of flash memory for relatively cheap. Retractable feature is very handy and protects well.
Cons: VERY slow. Running any portable apps from this thing is almost imposible. I use Firefox portable connstantly. It ran fine on my PNY 2GB stick, but this runs it extremely slow, to the point that it is almost not worth running. Transfering data is also very slow. moving 1GB of data from the PNY 2GB to this took almost an hour. The retractable thing is a little touchy at times and hard to get in and out, but still a nice feature.
Summary: It's excruciatingly slow. I probably should have sent it back, but I told myself "what the heck - you're not in that big a hurry, right?" Well, maybe I am after all. On the plus side, it does work and has been reliable to far. On the minus side, it doesn't work very fast. And the problem doesn't appear to have anything to do with Windows, either - I use the current version of OSX on a Mac.
Summary: If you are lucky enough to get one that works long term, you've made a great purchase. Question is ... 'do you feel lucky?
Pros: Truly a great price for this amount of memory, with a cool case, but not without a few drawbacks.
Cons: Bought two units which worked great for about 3 weeks, then one failed loosing all data. Cost of returning these units under warranty was almost as expensive as the purchase price. With no guarantee that the replacement unit wouldn't fail and loose all my files, I decided not to get one. The second unit was used by another person, with the same result 4 weeks later.
Summary: Bought this to do regular backups of my critical data. Once the initial 1st copy is made (takes hours), the incremental backups aren't too bad. I see there are now other 8Gb sticks in this price range. They are probably a better choice.
Pros: Good price for the capacity. Retractable connector is nice. Read speed is OK.
Cons: Very slow writing. Took 90 minutes to transfer 2 GB. Tried changes suggested by other reviewers - reformatted to NTFS. Enabled write caching. Didn't help much. Instructions say encryption and synchronization software can be downloaded from Transcend website. Website says the software is not available for this model.
