U3 missing

Michael Rossander, Amazon
2 December 2010
  • Summary: Some people don't like the U3 software but it works for me. In particular, I like their approach to encryption. I specifically bought this model because the description said it included U3. When I plugged it in, however, there was no U3. I am extremely disappointed. Note: Purchased in Nov 2010 from Digital Media Source.

Watch out for the bloatware

F. R. Barrie, Amazon
15 January 2010
  • Summary: The first time I plugged my new Cruzer drive, I discovered to my dismay that it automatically uploaded unexpected, unannounced and unwanted programs into my computer. Moreover, these proved nearly impossible to eradicate, not only from my computer but from the flash drive. Even reformatting the Cruzer wouldn't remove them. This is inexcusable. I've purchased many Sandisk products in the past, but I never will again. Obviously they can no longer be trusted.

This drive is TRASH! Died in less than 3 months!!!

Ms President "Political Misfit", Amazon
4 June 2009
  • Summary: I bought this drive because so many of the reviews on amazon.com were favorable. However, I've only had my cruzer drive for about 3-4 months and it is no longer working. One day I was using the drive and the computer stopped recognizing it and it stopped flashing. I initially thought it might be a computer issue and i switched computers but no luck. I've taken very good care of this drive so you can imagine my disappointment that it died in MONTHS!

Installs stuff you don't want or need

Scott, Amazon
17 September 2008
  • Summary: I'm a software developer who uses (well, used) this drive to transfer files between my mac and pc. Starting today, I'm no longer going to use this drive or any that Sandisk makes. Their auto-run software is annoying, and there is no way to remove it permanently as far as I can tell. The thing launches 2 drives when you plug it into windows XP... one for your stuff which is pre-cluttered with sandisk junk, and one for their auto-run software.

Simply EVIL!

Orion, Amazon
27 February 2008
  • Summary: The appliance comes with evil, unwanted, non-uninstallable software. Here is what it does: 1. Installs itself on your system without asking your permission first. It puts an icon in your tray. It pops up a window suggesting more software you can get. 2. It claims you can unstall the adware, but the uninstaller does not work. If you delete all the files, they magically reappear every time you put the device in the port. (This is a SPYWARE technique, and it is EVIL.) 3.

Frustrations, Freezes, Reboots, and Pain

Mark Spicer "Original Kings Fan", Amazon
20 February 2008
  • Summary: All of the folks complaining of system freezes and reboots when using this drive are true. It seems to be erratic though so some users have no issues. I have 4 PC's and 2 Mac's in the house. This drive works fine on both mac's and 1 of the PC's. The other 3 PC's barf when the drive is inserted and just reboot themselves. It's the U3 software that causes the problems. I have several other flash drives and they all work fine on all machines.

WARNING: Your data will be erased!!

Betty G. Shapiro "Betty Shapiro", Amazon
29 December 2007
  • Summary: Warning: Don't install the "update" because it will erase all of your data! I have been using the Cruzer thumb drive for some time. I have never liked it because it installs software on my computer without my permission (is that legal?). I usually have other copies of the data on my thumb drive, but recently a hard drive failed at work so I used my SanDisk thumb drive to back up some important data.

Did Not Work

J. Cass, Amazon
31 October 2007
  • Summary: I've had a lot of flash drives and this is the first one that wouldn't work. Errors, doesn't copy data, maybe it's a conflict with the preloaded software.

Do NOT buy this product!

Overstock
30 January 2007
  • Summary: This is the worst USB drive I've ever seen! I gave this 1 star only because zero wasn't an option. It says that all you have to do it plug it in and start using. HA! I fiddled with this for almost an hour before giving up and returning it. The auto-run software on this USB drive locked up my computer (I have a fairly high-powered 1.5 year old computer). Too "smart" for its own good.
