Summary: Up to 10MB/s write! I must have missed this when I ordered. Unless you get a great deal and don't use the drive much, I cannot recommend the Patriot 16GB Supersonic Xpress USB 3.0 Flash Drive.
Fast USB 2 drive with slightly weak detent on its outer sleeve.
2 February 2014
Summary: This series is one of the fastest USB 2.0 flash drives I have used. The only weakness is the click mechanism has a weak detent so it sometimes collapses when I try to insert it into a snug port while holding onto the outside of the sleeve. I get around this by pushing on the end of the inner, blue piece instead.
Summary: I have previously purchased dozens of these drives. Very happy with them. My latest order was for 6 of them, and they were all dead out of the box. I contacted Patriot, and they told me that it was a known issue and that the firmware needed an update. I find it UNBELIEVABLE that Patriot would leave these on the market, and that they are still being sold when they know they are defective. They did not offer to pay for shipping for the return.
Summary: Much faster than the previous USB 2.0 flash drive i was using. I have not tried to run any legitimate speed testing for numbers, but it is a noticeable difference over the older models. Have had for a few months and have had 0 issues with lost or corrupted data.
Pros: This little guy has proved invaluable to me. Moving those big files at USB 3.0 is a breeze and this drive performs like a dream.
Cons: You can retract the USB portion into the plastic of the drive instead of having a cover over it. This itself isn't bad, but its really really easy to accidentally retract the drive when trying to plug this into a PC. Just an annoying byproduct of the design.
Pros: Solid body, meets my expectations for a USB 3.0 device
Cons: The only serious con with this item is the overall width of it There's a considerable amount of unnecessary plastic on the sides that makes it wide enough to block neighboring ports. Eventually I tore the thing apart so that I have just the blue piece so that I could use it without a hub on my laptop.
