Good While It Lasted
23 January 2012
Summary: At almost $2.00 a GB. you would expect a class act, an really so considering the title "Lexar JumpDrive Secure II Plus 8GB. Drive"But Turned into a noclass Drive after only 4 months of litte use. Emailed Lexar 4 days ago with no reply. I can see now why the Egg Deactivated this drive.
Pros: Bought 2 of these Lexar JumpDrive Secure II Plus 8GB. Drives in Oct.2011 ,I was Happy with how they worked on Win.7,Win XP and Mac OS-X. Not one complaint up to January 2012.
Cons: January 2012 had 2 of these 4 month when for no reason I can figure out one (1) just went from reading 7+ GB.'s to reading and showing only 1 GB. Total Capacity. Why? No idea, the rest of the word doc.'s and other files are gone. Then about 4 days later the 2nd. one started acting up, the display o...
Summary: I like the lcd scale, but it's only warranted for a year, while the drive itself is warranted for 3 years. Makes me wonder how reliable it is. I then read where someone else's went out relatively quickly. Maybe it's like a lcd light bulb that will burn out after a while.
Pros: Nice locking cap; analog readout of your megabytes (only loosely practical for space left estimates).
Cons: Came off my key chain when the part that holds it onto a keyring, etc. must have broken off when stressed by putting keys in and out of pocket. A woman with a purse probably wouldn't have to worry as much. Lexar II security program continued to run in the background even after I uninstalled it.
Cons: The Secure II Plus software only works on 32 bit XP and Vista. Will not work on 64 bit systems or Windows 7. Lexar "understands my frustration" but other than that couldn't care less that their secure USB stick won't work on the shipping version of the Windows OS or half the installed base of com...
Pros: It is 8GB and has a capacity meter, which is allegedly has a 1 year warranty.
Cons: Very flimsy - cap is close to paper thin and came cracked. The USB drive is also very flimsy. I called tech support and Lexar promised call backs, but never returned calls. When I was able to get through to telephone support, the rep claimed other depts were responsible and gave me the run around...
Summary: If you do decide to buy this product make sure you have secondary copies of the data on the drive in another location!
Pros: Was cheap and from what I read online had decent reviews.
Cons: Lasted less then six months. Only carried it in my pocket on my keychain. Plugged it in one day and nothing. Tested it on multiple computers and none will even recognize that it has been inserted into the usb drive.
