Metal's worth more than the Drive

Jeremiah L., Newegg
2 February 2012
  • Summary: My favorite flash drive that I've kept on my key ring was a attache mini. It swiveled into its cap. That thing lasted me 4+ yrs and when it broke, I super glued it back together and got another yr out of it. I gave it to my dad when I replaced it.
  • Pros: The device is fast! Faster transfer rate than any of my external 2.5" hdds. May try to cram another flash drives internals into the metal case that this drive has.
  • Cons: They fail. I've had two (2) of the 32GB model drives, and both have failed within 6 months. Managed to get a replacement for the first one that failed from the maker. I'm not going to bother getting another replacement. The metal wire ring that the drive comes with eventually starts to brake and ...

Good Drive

Michael D., Newegg
10 November 2011
  • Summary: As far getting cut goes, it has never bled, just filleted the skin a bit. This is caused by two things: Sharp edges on the interior of the drive and the small smooth surface area to screw the drive into the case. I have started using my shirt to get around this from happening.
  • Pros: The drive is fast and very durable. Performs as advertised.
  • Cons: I have cut my index finger opening/closing the drive many times as the case can be a bit difficult/tight to screw onto the drive due to the waterproofing o-ring and small gripping area.

Love it

Tyler H., Newegg
21 February 2011
  • Summary: The drive itself can get warm when its plugged in and left. I suppose the metal body acts like a heat sink. Just a note for those who are used to plastic drives.
  • Pros: Very well build body. Rubber gasket for water sealing on the threading is nice.
  • Cons: The little braided cable they give you to hook it on, broke the 2nd day I had it. The cable is basically just pinched on at one little point and just came out of the hole. No worries though I just found a standard ring that fits nicely in the attachment hole on the body and used that to hook to m...

Great drive, great support!

Tucker O., Newegg
28 January 2011
  • Summary: For what it's worth, I used to have the slide-action Sandisk USB Titanium Cruzer, which was also an excellent thumb drive. Only problem is that I'm not totally certain they make it anymore and it had some flaws after a few years worth of use (but then again, that long of a lifespan for a USB drive...
  • Pros: Probably the best-built, sturdiest, and toughest USB drive you'll ever have the pleasure of owning. Read and write speeds on USB 2.0 are fine, nothing too exciting. LaCie's support is very attentive and DOES CROSS-SHIP should you have a malfunctioning unit. That's an excellent policy in my book. ...
  • Cons: Truth be told, the first drive I got stopped working after I formatted it to NTFS (I'm not saying that's what caused it to stop working, but that's the only change I made to it before it stopped showing up on any computers) and refused to show up on any computers despite my countless hours spent ...

Fast, rugged, and bulky

Yi F., Newegg
22 November 2010
  • Summary: The drive can be detached from shell, which connects to my key chain. This reduce the load of the USB port on my machine since the drive is plugged in only itself. Good design.
  • Pros: Since there's no review so far, I volunteer the first. I invested on this drive for two reasons: first, it's fast; second, it's rugged. I bought the 16GB version. It reads really fast. 25-30MBps across all platforms. I am mainly a windows user; I manage a cluster of linux at school; and I occassi...
  • Cons: It's very sturdy, and it's very very bulky. 2mm shell makes it thick, I would compromised to 1mm shell and get it smaller.
