Summary: Not long after purchasing a new computer, I discovered that my camcorder only had a FireWire port for downloading my videos to the new computer for editing. After researching the various FireWire cards, I decided to give this one a try. Upon installing the card and turning on the computer, the card was recognized without any installation of software. My computer runs Windows 8.1, and the FireWire card has been working flawlessly.
Took me 5 minutes to install and I am no computer wiz

Summary: I watched a 5 minute youtube video and installed this in about 5 minutes. It is the first time I have ever installed any type of hardware in a computer. Now I can finally upload by MiniDigital Video onto my computer using a 6-pin firewire (400 port). Caution, the instructions from Vantec weren't very good, so I highly recommend a "how to" video.
Summary: Board was exactly what I expected, plugged into computer and hooked up device with no problems. Came with an internal power cord with no directions on how to use. Printed diagram directions were nice, however the directions skip step 5. Printed booklet directions nice, except didn't go into specifics of why you would want to use or not use the internal power cord. Luckily I knew how to install, might confuse those with lesser computer experience.
Summary: Product did not function in a way to be useful. Clearly states no drivers needed, but my computer needed something to recognize the card. To help anyone else. What I was attempting to do: I have a Presonus Firestorm mobile audio interface. It has Firewire out. Was hooked up to my Mac. I needed to use it on my PC. My PC doesn't have Firewire inputs, only USB inputs.
