Summary: I have a MiniDV camcorder from yester - year. The camcorder, while not HD, is still a quality piece of equipment. Most camcorders these days use USB 2.0, but my JVC MiniDV camcorder only offered a 1394 FireWire port. Unfortunately, the motherboard on my computer does not have any FireWire ports or PCIe slots. This product is great because it works with the older PCI slots. I use both Windows XP Home Edition and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (Dual Boot; not virtual).
Summary: Bought it online, installed on the PC, worked perfectly and included the firewire cable. I am a happy customer, that is transfering his video tapes to digital drive. Went to many other stores and similar products would cost 60 usd or more...saved me a nice 50 bucks...
Summary: This was purchased to replace an existing Dell FireWire card which had become damaged through long use. Great price and arrived quickly. Just popped it in and it was immediately recognized (Windows 7) and the camera came online immediately. so was it has worked flawlessly and if you are okay with the 400 speed and have a PCI slot, I don't think it is necessary to purchase a more expensive card.
Summary: Can't beat it for the price. Installed in minutes and was recognized by my Windows XP Pro system right away. I use the UGT-FW050 card to control and capture DVCam video from both a professional Sony DVCam tape deck and camera. I also have it connected to an external FireWire hard disk drive. Works perfectly. When I upgrade to professional XDCam I will need to upgrade the card to FireWire 800 to take advantage of faster file transfer rates, but for now this card is great.
